Position Summary:
The Large Format Printer Maintenance Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and optimization of large format printing equipment used in commercial, industrial, signage, graphics, and production environments. This position ensures maximum equipment uptime, print quality, and operational efficiency through preventative maintenance, technical diagnostics, and timely repair of printers, finishing equipment, and supporting systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on large format printers, plotters, laminators, cutters, and finishing equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and software-related issues.
  • Troubleshoot print quality problems, including color consistency, banding, alignment, and media handling issues.
  • Replace and calibrate printheads, ink delivery systems, motors, sensors, belts, rollers, and electronic components.
  • Install, configure, and commission new printing equipment.
  • Conduct firmware updates and software upgrades as needed.
  • Monitor equipment performance and recommend corrective actions to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain inventory of maintenance parts, consumables, and repair supplies.
  • Train operators on proper equipment use, cleaning procedures, and basic troubleshooting techniques.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and service records accurately.
  • Collaborate with production and operations teams to schedule maintenance with minimal disruption.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety standards and manufacturer specifications.
  • Coordinate with equipment manufacturers and external service providers when advanced technical support is required.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical certification in electronics, industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience maintaining or repairing large format printers, digital presses, industrial equipment, or similar machinery.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems.
  • Experience with RIP software and color management systems preferred.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and maintenance equipment.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation if travel between sites is required.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience servicing equipment from Print Machine manufacturers
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of large format digital printing technologies.
  • Understanding of ink systems, printheads, media transport mechanisms, and color calibration.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple service requests in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and maintenance management software.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work around industrial equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to use hand tools, electrical testing equipment, and maintenance tools safely.
  • Ability to distinguish colors accurately for print quality evaluation.
  • Ability to work in production, manufacturing, or warehouse environments.

Working Conditions:

  • Indoor production and manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to inks, solvents, cleaning solutions, and moving mechanical equipment.
  • Occasional after-hours, weekend, or emergency service work may be required.
  • Travel between multiple locations may be necessary depending on business needs.
