About the Client:

Express Employment is partnering with a large development company located in Shasta County.

About the Position:

We are looking for a dynamic, community-minded Director of Communications to lead marketing, public relations, community relations, and event strategy across the organization, including for various affiliated entities— spanning real estate development, property management, general contracting, field services, and hospitality.

Job Description/ Responsibilities:

1. Global Marketing and Communications Strategy

•    Marketing Strategy and Systems. Develop and continuously refine a comprehensive, organization-wide marketing and communications strategy informed by emerging global marketing trends, evolving technologies, local market conditions, consumer behavior, and competitive activity. Identify opportunities for the client and its affiliated businesses to strengthen awareness, engagement, traffic, and revenue, and translate those opportunities into coordinated marketing systems, campaigns, calendars, workflows, and measurable objectives. Build the processes necessary to leverage employees, contractors, vendors, and other organizational resources as contributors to the marketing effort, rather than relying solely on centralized content production.
•    Budget and Investment Plan. Within the initial phase of employment, develop and present a realistic annual marketing and advertising budget for the client and each applicable affiliated entity. Recommendations should be grounded in organizational goals, available resources, market opportunities, a cross-comparison of similar organizations and spending levels, historical performance where available, and anticipated return on investment. The Director will be expected to articulate the business case for proposed expenditures, prioritize investments based on expected impact, and establish measurable performance benchmarks against which future marketing spend can be evaluated.
•    Design & Production.  Design and produce high-quality marketing collateral — print, digital, photo, and video — across the client and the client’s affiliates. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated hands-on marketing content production experience and proficiency with professional creative tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Final Cut Pro, or comparable design, photography, and video-production platforms.
•    Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technology. Demonstrate proficiency with modern artificial intelligence tools and actively identify opportunities to use AI, automation, and emerging technologies to increase the speed, quality, reach, and effectiveness of marketing and communications activities. The Director should use these tools to accelerate research, ideation, content development, production, analysis, and routine workflows while maintaining appropriate human judgment, quality control, brand standards, and accuracy.
•    Advertising. Direct advertising by creating a comprehensive annual budget with 90-day lookahead calendars for each affiliated entity.  Produce campaigns with strategic goals and a mechanism to evaluate successes and failures to prove a tangible return on investment for advertising spend.  Manage sponsorship opportunities to achieve the organization’s goals while connecting with the community.  Evaluate campaign performance against sales and engagement data monthly.
•    Brand Voice & Guidelines. Develop and maintain brand voice, visual identity, and branding guidelines, ensuring consistency across all of the client’s affiliated companies.

2. Public Relations and Media

•    Earned Media Strategy & Relations. Develop and execute a proactive earned-media strategy that generates meaningful exposure without reliance on significant paid advertising. Build substantive relationships with local, regional, statewide, and, where appropriate, national journalists, publications, producers, creators, and other media outlets, maintaining an organized media database and positioning the client as a reliable resource for relevant stories.
•    Story Development & Pitching. Proactively identify projects, milestones, personalities, events, trends, and community initiatives that can be developed into compelling stories rather than simply waiting for newsworthy events to occur. Develop targeted pitches, press releases, media advisories, photography, video assets, talking points, and media kits that make the client and its businesses easy and attractive to cover.
•    Media Opportunities & Visibility. Pursue feature stories, interviews, expert commentary, awards, speaking opportunities, podcasts, and other earned-media opportunities that strengthen organizational visibility and credibility. Create strategic media experiences, including previews, openings, tours, announcements, and periodic media/influencer events, and measure resulting coverage, reach, engagement, and other indicators of effectiveness.

3. Community & Event Strategy

•    Tourism & Community Liaison. Build and maintain partnerships with local tourism organizations (e.g., Visit Redding) and community stakeholders on behalf of the client’s businesses, keeping the company and its brands top-of-mind for visitors and locals alike.
•    Event Coordination. Lead planning and execution of a company-wide calendar of events tied to major community and holiday dates — at minimum Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Lunar New Year, Easter, Kool April Nights, Asphalt Cowboys Pancake Breakfast & Parade, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Oktoberfest, Christmas Tree Lighting & Parade, and New Year’s Eve — plus support for independently run community events (Hops and Shops, the Redding Beer and Wine Festival, the Tipsy Tomato, the REU Fair, and similar) wherever they intersect with the cleint’s businesses.
•    Master Calendar Management. Build and maintain a comprehensive external, publicly hosted calendar of Redding entertainment and public events, plus an internal calendar available to staff across all client affiliated companies. Coordinate with existing resources (Visit Redding, the Redding Chamber, City of Redding Parks & Rec) and automate updates wherever possible to minimize manual entry.
•    Downtown & Regional Events. Track and coordinate participation in downtown Redding and regional anchor events to keep the client’s businesses connected to what’s happening around them.

Additional Projects

The Director of Communications will lead additional special projects assigned by the executive team — such as new community, customer experience, or brand initiatives — that fall within the scope of marketing, communications, and community relations for the client.
