Manufacturing Cost Accountant
We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Cost Accountant to support cost accounting, inventory, margin analysis, and financial reporting within a manufacturing environment. This position will work closely with Operations, Engineering, FP&A, and Supply Chain to improve cost visibility and support business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect and analyze operational cost data, including materials, labor, overhead, freight, and shipping, to improve cost visibility and margin performance.
- Set, maintain, and roll standard costs for manufactured products and analyze key cost drivers.
- Analyze purchase price variance (PPV), labor, and overhead variances and recommend opportunities to reduce costs and waste.
- Perform month-end inventory and cost account reconciliations and support cycle counts and inventory accuracy.
- Partner with Engineering to maintain accurate BOMs and routers for product costing.
- Prepare margin and job-level profitability analyses for management reporting.
- Support forecasting and annual planning activities.
- Perform cost-volume-profit/breakeven and make-vs-buy analyses to support pricing, capacity, and sourcing decisions.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities related to revenue and COGS, including balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare reports and communicate financial findings to cross-functional teams and management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3–4 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in high-precision manufacturing or semiconductor equipment is a plus.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, standard costing, inventory accounting, COGS, and management reporting.
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial modeling.
- Experience working with a manufacturing ERP system such as SAP, Oracle, Epicor, or a similar platform.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to interpret cost trends and operational drivers.
- Ability to work with incomplete or evolving data and develop clear, actionable recommendations.
- High level of accuracy when working with large data sets and account reconciliations.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across Finance, Operations, Engineering, and Supply Chain.
Work Environment
This is primarily a desk-based position in an office environment, with occasional movement throughout the facility for cross-functional collaboration. The position may occasionally require lifting lightweight objects of up to 25 lbs. The work environment typically has a low to moderate noise level.
