Position Summary
We are seeking a Manufacturing Digitalization Co-Op to support a six-month project focused on converting manufacturing knowledge and processes into digital work instructions.
This is a hands-on role that will involve spending time on the manufacturing floor with experienced operators and technicians, learning how equipment and processes are performed, documenting that knowledge, and creating clear, visual instructions that employees can access from tablets.
The Co-Op will work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, and Safety teams throughout the project.
Responsibilities
- Shadow experienced operators and maintenance technicians performing critical manufacturing tasks.
- Interview subject-matter experts to understand equipment, processes, troubleshooting techniques, and best practices.
- Capture photos, videos, equipment drawings, warning signs, common mistakes, and troubleshooting information.
- Convert captured information into clear, step-by-step digital work instructions.
- Create visual instructions that are easy for employees to understand and follow.
- Develop tablet-based navigation for equipment using photographs, drawings, and simplified equipment views.
- Create standardized templates for:
- Startups and shutdowns
- Changeovers
- AM/PM activities
- Troubleshooting
- Safety procedures
- Quality checks
- Employee qualification
- Test work instructions with employees who have less experience with the equipment.
- Gather feedback and revise instructions based on observed use.
- Maintain accurate documentation and organize completed materials.
- Work with plant personnel to ensure instructions are accurate and practical.
- Support the implementation and adoption of digital work instructions.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable working with operators, technicians, and engineering personnel.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to learn manufacturing processes and equipment quickly.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment.
- Comfortable using computers, tablets, cameras, and digital tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, or production experience.
- Previous internship or co-op experience.
- Experience creating SOPs, work instructions, or technical documentation.
- Exposure to Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement.
- Experience with CAD, equipment drawings, or 3D visualization.
- Experience with manufacturing software or digital work-instruction platforms.
- Augmentir experience is a plus but is not required.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is curious, hands-on, technically minded, and comfortable talking with experienced plant employees. They should be able to learn how a process works and translate that knowledge into simple, visual instructions that a new employee can easily understand.
