Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:30 PM
Lunch: 30-minute unpaid lunch break
Workday: 8 hours
Schedule: Tentative and subject to change based on operational needs.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Logistics Coordinator with a strong operations mindset who can learn the business, build positive relationships with drivers and customers, and keep day-to-day transportation operations running smoothly with limited oversight once fully trained.

Also known as a Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, or Driver Manager, the Logistics Coordinator plays a key role in coordinating drivers, freight, equipment, and customer needs in a fast-paced transportation environment.

Job Summary

The Logistics Coordinator is at the center of a fast-paced, strategic operation. This position requires someone who can think ahead, make sound decisions, adapt quickly to changing circumstances, and maintain a positive, team-oriented attitude.

The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for managing driver and asset utilization, coordinating freight, supporting customer service, and helping maintain fleet efficiency and profitability. This position will also assist with driver training, coaching, administrative needs, and day-to-day scheduling.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Plan and match available freight with day cabs, sleeper/condo trucks, and qualified drivers.
  • Review driver PTAs, time-off requests, and home-time needs when planning same-day and next-day dispatches.
  • Schedule work, assign tasks, and communicate daily expectations to drivers.
  • Coordinate with other departments to maintain awareness of driver, freight, and equipment availability.
  • Monitor driver performance and identify situations requiring additional coaching, support, or escalation to supervisors and management.
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Department regarding trucks that are out of service or returning to service.
  • Plan future freight when customer information and availability allow.
  • Track drivers, loads, deliveries, and receivers to ensure operations remain on schedule.
  • Coordinate backhauls in dedicated operations to maximize the consistent movement of freight, trucks, and trailers.
  • Maintain regular communication with assigned drivers regarding call-offs, fatigue concerns, equipment issues, scheduling, and other operational needs.
  • Ensure team drivers are assigned loads appropriate for their available hours and capabilities.
  • Monitor Hours of Service (HOS) to support safe and compliant dispatching.
  • Identify opportunities to improve routing, truck utilization, and overall operational efficiency.
  • Respond to urgent situations, including truck or freight recovery, traffic, weather, equipment issues, and other circumstances that may impact on-time delivery.
  • Assist with orienting new drivers to assigned fleets and accounts, including communication procedures, reporting expectations, scheduling, and other account-specific requirements.
  • Work with drivers to address unique scheduling needs or issues while coordinating with supervisors and managers when necessary.
  • Support special situations such as extended time-off requests, leaves of absence, performance concerns, or other scheduling-related matters.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to dispatching, drivers, freight, and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the transportation operation.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • College degree preferred; a combination of college coursework and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Previous logistics, transportation, dispatching, or operational planning experience required.
  • Transportation or logistics industry experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of geography, including time and distance considerations relevant to transportation operations.
  • Working knowledge of transportation regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and other reporting tools.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with drivers, customers, coworkers, and management.
  • Ability to make decisions, prioritize tasks, and remain composed in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to learn company systems, procedures, and customer requirements quickly.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit at a desk and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to hear and communicate effectively by telephone and in person, with or without reasonable correction.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English effectively to communicate with individuals at various levels of education and experience.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring visual acuity, including preparing and analyzing data, viewing computer screens, and reading documents.
  • May occasionally be required to kneel, stoop, bend, push, lift, carry, or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, or varying shifts when required by operational needs.

Working Environment

  • Fast-paced office and transportation environment with frequent interruptions, changing priorities, and unexpected delays.
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities and assignments simultaneously while remaining organized, professional, and productive.
  • Must be able to respond to incoming requests by phone, email, and in person while continuing to manage other responsibilities.
  • Must remain professional and solution-oriented when handling challenging or time-sensitive situations.
  • May be required to work at a customer location and must follow all applicable customer policies and requirements, including dress code, access procedures, operating hours, and other site-specific expectations.
