Job Summary

The Diesel and Automotive Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered equipment, fleet vehicles, automobiles, light trucks, and related mechanical systems. This position ensures vehicles and equipment operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable regulations while minimizing downtime through preventive maintenance and quality repairs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on diesel engines, gasoline engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, suspension systems, and electrical components.
• Conduct preventive maintenance services, including oil changes, fluid checks, tire inspections, and filter replacements.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic system failures using diagnostic equipment and testing tools.
• Repair or replace defective parts, components, and systems.
• Inspect vehicles and equipment to identify safety concerns and maintenance needs.
• Perform brake, air brake, suspension, engine, drivetrain, and exhaust system repairs.
• Maintain detailed service and repair records, including parts used and labor performed.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and company safety requirements.
• Operate shop equipment, diagnostic software, welding equipment, and hand tools safely and effectively.
• Assist with emergency repairs and field service calls as needed.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Communicate repair recommendations and maintenance requirements to supervisors and vehicle operators.

Needed Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Preferred Minimum of 2 years of experience as a diesel mechanic, automotive mechanic, or related position.
• Strong knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and vehicle diagnostics.
• Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and repair documentation.
• Proficiency with diagnostic scanners and computerized troubleshooting equipment.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• ASE Certification(s).
• Diesel Technology or Automotive Technology certification from a recognized technical school.
• Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
• Experience maintaining fleet vehicles, heavy trucks, trailers, or construction equipment.
• Air Brake Certification.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
• Ability to work in varying weather conditions and shop environments.
• Manual dexterity sufficient to operate hand and power tools.
• Ability to safely operate vehicles and equipment.
