Maintenance Technician

Location: Waterloo, IA
Pay: $24.00/hour
Schedule: 5:00 AM–3:30 PM, Monday–Thursday
Type: Temp-to-Hire Opportunity

Position Overview

Express Employment Professionals in Waterloo is seeking a Maintenance Technician to join a local manufacturing team. This position is responsible for troubleshooting and repairing production machinery, performing preventative maintenance on equipment and building systems, and assisting with the setup and programming of new equipment, including PLCs and ladder logic. The ideal candidate will have a strong maintenance background and the ability to support uninterrupted production through timely repairs and proactive maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Troubleshoot and repair production machinery and equipment
• Perform preventative maintenance on machinery, equipment, and building systems
• Install, set up, and program new equipment, including PLC systems and ladder logic
• Minimize production downtime through timely repairs and maintenance activities
• Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and ladder logic diagrams
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
• Identify equipment issues and determine when outside support is needed
• Communicate effectively with management and production personnel
• Operate hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, hoists, cranes, and maintenance equipment
• Perform additional maintenance duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Associate degree or completion of a related trade school program required
• 2–3 years of electrical and industrial wiring experience required
• 2–3 years of machine maintenance experience required
• 1 year of carpentry experience required
• 1 year of plumbing experience with PVC, ABS, Black Iron, and PEX required
• Knowledge of PLCs and ladder logic preferred
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
• Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and maintenance systems
• Ability to use Microsoft Excel and basic computer programs
• Valid driver's license required
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and solve problems effectively

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to climb ladders and work at elevated heights
• Ability to lift, carry, and use hand and power tools throughout the shift
• Ability to work around dust, noise, chemicals, and hazardous equipment
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical maintenance tasks for extended periods
• Ability to safely operate testing equipment, welding and cutting equipment, hoists, and cranes
