Role Summary

The IT Business Analyst (BA) is responsible for discovering, analyzing, and clearly articulating business problems and requirements so that IT products and solutions deliver meaningful, measurable value. The BA serves as a critical bridge between business stakeholders and technology delivery teams, ensuring shared understanding of needs, workflows, constraints, and outcomes.

In an Agile, product‑oriented environment, the IT Business Analyst partners closely with Product Managers and Product Owners to support product discovery, refine requirements, and reduce ambiguity before and during delivery. This role focuses on problem clarity and solution readiness, not backlog ownership or product strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Business & Problem Analysis

• Partner with business stakeholders to elicit, analyze, and validate business needs, problems, and opportunities
• Facilitate discovery sessions, workshops, and interviews to understand current‑state and future‑state processes
• Translate business problems into clear, structured requirements, workflows, and use cases
• Identify gaps, dependencies, risks, and assumptions early to reduce delivery rework

Requirements Definition & Refinement

• Produce high‑quality documentation such as:

o    Business requirements

o    Functional and non‑functional requirements

o    Process flows and data flows

o    User stories and acceptance criteria (in partnership with Product Owners)

• Ensure requirements are clear, testable, and aligned to intended outcomes
• Support backlog refinement by ensuring items are well understood and “ready” for development

Agile Delivery Support

• Collaborate with Product Owners and delivery teams throughout the development lifecycle
• Provide clarification during sprint planning and execution to reduce uncertainty
• Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) by validating solutions meet documented requirements
• Assist with change impact analysis and readiness for release

Stakeholder Collaboration & Communication

• Act as a trusted liaison between business users and IT teams
• Communicate complex requirements and constraints in a clear, concise manner
• Help manage stakeholder expectations by ensuring shared understanding of scope and trade‑offs

Continuous Improvement & Transformation Support

• Identify opportunities to improve business processes, data quality, and system usability
• Support digital transformation initiatives by documenting future‑state capabilities and workflows
• Contribute to standardization and reuse of analysis artifacts and practices

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 3+ years of experience as a Business Analyst in an IT or technology delivery environment
• Experience working on Agile or hybrid delivery teams

Skills & Competencies

• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
• Ability to decompose complex problems into understandable components
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience creating requirements, process flows, and user stories
• Ability to work effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
• Comfortable operating in environments with evolving requirements

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting enterprise IT systems or platforms (e.g., ERP, CRM, ServiceNow, integration platforms)
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum practices and ceremonies
• Experience supporting digital transformation or modernization initiatives
• Knowledge of data modeling, reporting, or integration concepts
• CBAP, CCBA, or Agile‑related training or certification (nice to have)

Success Measures

The IT Business Analyst is successful when:

• Business problems are clearly understood before development begins
• Requirements are well‑defined, reducing rework and delivery delays
• Product Owners and delivery teams spend less time clarifying intent mid‑sprint
• Delivered solutions meet business needs and expectations
• Stakeholders trust IT’s ability to understand and represent their needs

Role Boundaries (Explicit by Design)

The IT Business Analyst:

• ✅ Owns problem discovery and requirement clarity
• ✅ Supports Product Owners with backlog readiness
• ✅ Acts as a translator between business and technology

The IT Business Analyst does NOT:

• ❌ Own the product roadmap or strategy (Product Manager accountability)
• ❌ Own backlog prioritization or sprint commitments (Product Owner accountability)
• ❌ Act as a project manager
