Production Operator

Job Summary

The Production Operator is responsible for operating equipment and processes used in the manufacturing and packaging of specialty chemical products. This position ensures products are manufactured safely, accurately, and according to established quality standards. Responsibilities include operating production equipment, handling raw materials, maintaining production records, performing quality checks, and supporting a safe and organized work environment.

Production Operators may work at various skill levels, with opportunities to learn additional equipment, processes, and leadership responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Manufacturing and Production

  • Follow established operating procedures, work instructions, and safety guidelines
  • Operate production, packaging, and processing equipment safely and efficiently
  • Handle, prepare, and transfer raw materials and chemicals according to established procedures
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify operational issues
  • Operate reactors and processing equipment as assigned and qualified
  • Package products in various container sizes according to production requirements
  • Label, inspect, and prepare finished products for shipment
  • Load pallets, fill totes, and stage materials for transportation
  • Unload materials and assist with receiving activities as needed

Quality and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate production records and documentation
  • Perform product quality checks and basic testing procedures
  • Verify products meet quality and regulatory requirements
  • Follow food safety, quality assurance, and compliance standards where applicable
  • Assist in identifying root causes of safety, quality, or production issues

Equipment and Maintenance

  • Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely
  • Perform minor equipment maintenance and routine calibrations as assigned
  • Assist with troubleshooting equipment issues
  • Clean production equipment, containers, drums, and totes as required

Safety and Housekeeping

  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
  • Participate in safety, quality, environmental, and operational training programs
  • Demonstrate a commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement

Teamwork and Support

  • Work effectively with production, warehouse, shipping, maintenance, and quality teams
  • Train and assist other team members as skills and experience increase
  • Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Previous forklift operating experience
  • Basic math skills, including arithmetic calculations
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written instructions and procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed, sometimes on short notice
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality

Preferred

  • Experience in manufacturing, chemical processing, production, packaging, or industrial operations
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills
  • Experience working with quality systems, safety programs, or regulated manufacturing environments

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb stairs, and climb ladders throughout the workday
  • Ability to use hands and fingers for equipment operation and material handling
  • Ability to lift and move up to 55 pounds (25 kilograms)
  • Ability to wear a respirator and other required personal protective equipment
  • Ability to perform close and distance visual inspections with or without corrective lenses

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing and production facility environment
  • Regular exposure to production equipment, machinery, forklifts, and moving vehicles
  • Work performed both indoors and outdoors
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, temperatures, and environmental conditions
  • Noise levels range from moderate to occasionally high depending on production activities
