We are seeking a motivated, organized, and dependable Trucking Dispatcher to coordinate the daily operations of our over-the-road trucking fleet. The dispatcher will be responsible for communicating with drivers, brokers, shippers, and receivers while efficiently managing loads, routes, schedules, and delivery requirements.

 

The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, has strong communication and problem-solving skills, and understands the importance of keeping drivers moving while maintaining excellent customer service.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and dispatch OTR drivers and equipment on a daily basis.
• Locate and book freight that matches available trucks, lanes, and driver schedules.
• Communicate with brokers, shippers, receivers, and customers regarding load details and status.
• Negotiate rates and assist with securing profitable loads.
• Plan efficient routes while considering driver hours, pickup and delivery appointments, and operational requirements.
• Monitor drivers throughout each trip and provide updates regarding pickup, delivery, delays, breakdowns, and other issues.
• Track load progress and maintain accurate records of dispatch activities.
• Ensure drivers have complete and accurate pickup and delivery information.
• Obtain and organize rate confirmations, bills of lading, PODs, and other required paperwork.
• Resolve scheduling, routing, detention, layover, breakdown, and other operational issues quickly and professionally.
• Maintain regular communication with drivers to ensure safety, compliance, and on-time service.
• Coordinate with management and other members of the operations team to maximize equipment utilization and revenue.
• Maintain accurate records in transportation management systems, load boards, spreadsheets, and other company software.
• Follow company policies, DOT requirements, and applicable transportation regulations.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in trucking, freight brokerage, logistics, or dispatching preferred.
• Knowledge of the OTR trucking industry and common freight lanes preferred.
• Strong understanding of driver hours-of-service requirements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong negotiation and customer-service abilities.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with time-sensitive problems.
• Proficiency with computers, email, spreadsheets, load boards, and transportation software.
• Ability to work independently while also being an effective team member.
