Job Summary

A bus manufacturing company is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Shear Operator. The Shear Operator is responsible for setting up and operating shear equipment to accurately cut sheet metal and other materials according to specifications. This role plays a critical part in supporting the fabrication and assembly of commercial buses by ensuring materials are cut safely, efficiently, and to precise measurements.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Set up, adjust, and operate hydraulic and mechanical shear machines.
• Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, production schedules, and shop drawings.
• Measure, mark, and cut sheet metal, aluminum, and steel materials to required specifications.
• Verify dimensions and quality of finished materials using tape measures, calipers, and other measuring tools.
• Inspect materials for defects and ensure compliance with company quality standards.
• Safely load, unload, and move materials using forklifts, cranes, or other material-handling equipment as needed.
• Perform routine machine maintenance and report equipment issues to supervisors.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area while following all safety policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with fabrication, welding, and assembly teams to meet production deadlines.
• Accurately document production activities and material usage.

Qualifications

• Previous experience operating shear machines in a manufacturing or metal fabrication environment preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints and mechanical drawings.
• Strong understanding of measurements, fractions, and material specifications.
• Experience working with sheet metal, aluminum, or steel products.
• Ability to use measuring instruments accurately.
• Basic computer and documentation skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
