About the Opportunity

Express Employment Professionals is currently recruiting for a Senior Accountant – Hotel Operations on behalf of our client, a well-established hospitality organization in Red Deer.

This role is responsible for day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting within a fast-paced hotel environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy, supporting operational leaders, and contributing to budgeting and performance analysis.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations

• Prepare and distribute daily revenue and labour reporting
• Complete monthly financial statements and internal reporting packages
• Post journal entries and maintain general ledger accuracy
• Perform transactions and reconciliations within Sage and related systems
• Support month-end and year-end close processes
• Prepare and manage accruals (AP, AR, vacation, and operational accruals)
• Ensure adherence to accounting policies and internal controls

Reconciliations & Financial Controls

• Perform bank and intercompany reconciliations
• Investigate and resolve financial variances and discrepancies
• Support capital expenditure tracking
• Ensure integrity of financial data across systems

Taxation & Compliance

• Prepare and file GST returns and applicable remittances
• Ensure compliance with statutory reporting requirements

Accounts Receivable, Inventory & Operations Support

• Support AR processes, collections, and reporting
• Assist with inventory tracking and reconciliations
• Collaborate with operational leaders to ensure cost control and reporting accuracy

Budgeting & Financial Analysis

• Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes
• Perform variance analysis and provide financial insights
• Monitor performance against budget targets
• Support ad hoc financial reporting and analysis

Qualifications & Experience

• Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• CPA designation or active pursuit of CPA considered an asset
• Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience
• Hospitality or hotel accounting experience strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of accrual accounting and financial reporting

Technical Skills

• Experience with Sage accounting software
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Experience with Microsoft Business Central is an asset
• Familiarity with hospitality systems such as Opera and Clear is preferred
• Strong ability to learn and adapt to new systems
