Maintenance Custodian

Job Summary

Express Employment Professionals is seeking a dependable and skilled Maintenance Custodian to join a local company in Cape Girardeau, MO. This position combines custodial responsibilities with basic building and equipment maintenance. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, reliable, safety-minded, and comfortable performing a variety of cleaning, repair, and general maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities

Custodial Duties

• Clean and sanitize offices, restrooms, break rooms, common areas, and other assigned spaces.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors and surfaces.
• Empty trash and recycling containers and properly dispose of waste.
• Dust, wipe down, and disinfect furniture, fixtures, and high-touch surfaces.
• Clean and restock restrooms and facility supplies.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Maintenance Duties

• Perform basic building and facility maintenance and repairs.
• Assist with minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general repair tasks as qualified.
• Inspect buildings, equipment, and work areas for maintenance needs or safety concerns.
• Replace light bulbs, filters, fixtures, and other basic maintenance items as needed.
• Assist with maintaining doors, locks, walls, floors, and other facility components.
• Operate and maintain basic hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
• Report major repairs, equipment issues, or unsafe conditions to the appropriate supervisor.
• Assist maintenance personnel or contractors with larger repair and maintenance projects.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
• Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Safely handle cleaning chemicals, tools, equipment, and maintenance materials.
• Maintain clear and safe walkways, work areas, and emergency access points.
• Follow proper procedures for chemical storage and waste disposal.

Qualifications

• Previous custodial, janitorial, facilities, maintenance, or general labor experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of building maintenance and repair.
• Comfortable using hand tools and basic power tools.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety.
• Ability to troubleshoot basic maintenance issues.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, lift, push, and pull as required.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
