Warehouse & Production Director

Location: San Diego, CA
Schedule: Full-Time | On-Site
Salary: $90,000–$105,000 annually, depending on experience

Express Employment Professionals is seeking an experienced Warehouse & Production Director for a full-time leadership opportunity with a growing manufacturing company in San Diego.

This position will oversee the people, processes, inventory, and day-to-day execution required to move materials efficiently from receiving through production and final fulfillment. The Director will lead warehouse operations, production scheduling, inventory control, assembly, quality, shipping, safety, staffing, and continuous improvement.

This is a hands-on leadership position for an experienced operations professional who can build strong teams, establish clear processes, anticipate challenges, and create a reliable and accountable production environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee receiving, put-away, inventory control, picking, packing, staging, shipping, and overall warehouse operations
  • Develop and manage realistic daily and weekly production schedules
  • Allocate labor, materials, and resources to meet production and fulfillment commitments
  • Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts, discrepancy investigations, reconciliation, and disciplined ERP practices
  • Ensure assemblies are completed according to approved Bills of Materials (BOMs), work orders, established processes, and quality requirements
  • Identify opportunities to reduce production errors, prevent rework, and improve overall efficiency
  • Lead, train, develop, and hold accountable warehouse and production managers, supervisors, and team members
  • Coordinate with Purchasing to ensure material availability and address potential shortages
  • Partner with Sales Operations to manage priorities, rush requirements, and customer commitments
  • Maintain a clean, organized, safe, controlled, and audit-ready warehouse and production environment
  • Develop, document, and improve Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Identify potential material, staffing, capacity, workflow, quality, and scheduling risks before they impact operations
  • Recommend practical solutions and escalate significant operational concerns when appropriate
  • Establish and monitor performance measures related to production output, inventory accuracy, quality, receiving, shipping, and overall execution
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout warehouse and production operations
  • Work alongside the team when necessary while maintaining focus on leadership, planning, and long-term operational improvement

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Establish clear expectations, responsibilities, and priorities across warehouse and production teams
  • Develop supervisors, managers, and employees through coaching, training, and consistent accountability
  • Ensure employees understand daily production goals and operational priorities
  • Build processes that create consistency and reduce reliance on individual knowledge
  • Promote strong communication and collaboration between Operations, Purchasing, Sales Operations, Warehouse, and Production
  • Create an environment focused on safety, quality, accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • Significant leadership experience within warehouse, manufacturing, production, distribution, or operations
  • Proven experience leading warehouse and production teams
  • Strong knowledge of production scheduling and labor/material allocation
  • Hands-on experience with inventory control, receiving, shipping, and fulfillment
  • Experience working with Bills of Materials (BOMs) and work orders
  • Strong ERP or inventory management system experience
  • Experience managing cycle counts, inventory discrepancies, and reconciliation
  • Understanding of manufacturing quality standards and process controls
  • Experience developing and implementing SOPs
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse and workplace safety practices
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and hold employees accountable
  • Strong problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills
  • Ability to identify operational risks and develop solutions before issues become critical
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable balancing hands-on operational involvement with higher-level leadership responsibilities

Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas is a strong plus:

  • Regulated manufacturing environments
  • Medical product manufacturing or fulfillment
  • Government or DoD-related fulfillment
  • Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement
  • ERP and inventory management systems
  • Cycle counting and inventory traceability
  • Quality management and corrective action
  • KPI development and performance measurement
  • High-volume or complex assembly operations

What Success Looks Like

The successful Warehouse & Production Director will build an operation where production schedules are realistic and consistently achieved, inventory records accurately reflect physical inventory, and receiving and shipping processes are timely and controlled.

Production errors and rework are minimized, recurring problems result in corrective action, and the warehouse remains organized, safe, and audit-ready.

Most importantly, this leader will develop a strong team with clear expectations, ownership, accountability, and well-documented processes. Operational risks are identified early, leadership has visibility into meaningful issues, and the department becomes increasingly capable of operating effectively without constant senior-level intervention.
