Express Employment Professionals is partnering with a local higher education institution to recruit an experienced Financial Reporting Manager to support financial reporting, accounting operations, regulatory compliance, audits, and financial process improvement.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting or finance professional with experience in financial statement preparation, month-end and year-end close, GAAP, GASB, account reconciliations, audit support, and ERP systems.

The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with complex financial data while collaborating with leadership and departments across the organization.

Financial Reporting Manager Responsibilities

• Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities.
• Prepare journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial adjustments.
• Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and internal financial reports.
• Review financial data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
• Identify and analyze significant financial variances, trends, and risks.
• Develop recurring and ad hoc financial reports to support organizational decision-making.
• Prepare reports related to capital projects, fixed assets, budgets, and other financial activities.
• Coordinate and assist with external financial reporting to state, federal, and regulatory organizations.
• Support annual financial statement audits by preparing schedules, workpapers, journal entries, and supporting documentation.
• Ensure financial reporting complies with GAAP, GASB, and applicable state and federal requirements.
• Assist with audits involving government funding, research and development, and other regulatory requirements.
• Develop, update, and document accounting and financial policies and procedures.
• Partner with departments and leadership to improve understanding of financial data and reporting processes.
• Identify opportunities to automate manual accounting processes and improve ERP functionality.
• Participate in special accounting projects, financial initiatives, and process improvement efforts.

Financial Reporting Manager Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3–5 years of accounting, finance, budgeting, financial reporting, or related experience.
• Experience with financial statement preparation and account reconciliations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, data sorting, and PivotTables.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet financial reporting deadlines.
• Ability to handle confidential financial information with integrity and professionalism.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in higher education, government, nonprofit, or another complex financial environment.
• Experience coordinating or supporting annual financial audits.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and GASB accounting standards.
• Experience with month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Experience preparing audit schedules, workpapers, and supporting documentation.
• Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and variance analysis.
• Experience using ERP or financial accounting systems.
• Experience improving or automating financial processes.
• Exposure to government funding, regulatory reporting, or fund accounting is a plus.
