Job SummaryThe Generator Deployment Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating the deployment, movement, and retrieval of emergency and temporary generators during power outages and other service disruptions. This position communicates with field crews, drivers, customers, and DTE personnel to ensure generators are dispatched efficiently, safely, and according to priority.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Coordinate generator deployment assignments based on outage locations, customer needs, and operational priorities.
Dispatch drivers, technicians, and field crews to generator deployment and retrieval locations.
Monitor generator locations, crew status, arrival times, and deployment progress throughout each assignment.
Maintain accurate records of generator assignments, equipment locations, delivery times, and recovery status.
Communicate with field personnel by phone, radio, email, or dispatch systems to provide instructions and updates.
Track transportation and equipment movement to ensure generators arrive at the correct locations on schedule.
Coordinate emergency changes, rerouting, delays, and additional resources as conditions change.
Communicate with customers, contractors, and internal departments regarding generator delivery and deployment status.
Prioritize multiple assignments during outages while maintaining accurate information and timely communication.
Verify that generators and related equipment are properly documented before deployment and upon return.
Escalate delays, equipment issues, safety concerns, or other operational problems to the appropriate supervisor.
Maintain detailed dispatch logs, work orders, and deployment documentation.
Follow DTE safety procedures, emergency response protocols, and company policies at all times.
Work extended hours, weekends, holidays, or varying shifts during severe weather and major outage events as needed.
Qualifications
Previous dispatch, logistics, transportation, warehouse, utility, or emergency-response experience preferred.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Ability to coordinate multiple crews and assignments simultaneously.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly.
Strong computer skills and ability to learn dispatch and tracking systems.
Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergency situations.
Strong attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping.
Ability to work flexible schedules during outage restoration events.
