Position Summary

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the organization’s day-to-day accounting and financial operations. This position will maintain accurate financial records, assist with monthly and annual close processes, prepare account reconciliations, support financial reporting, and help ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, analytical, and able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism. The salary range is $57K-$77K! Benefits offered: Health, Dental, RX, Vision, FSA, Vacation, Sick, Holidays, 403B Plan! 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

General Accounting

  • Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with GAAP.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
  • Prepare and reconcile balance sheet accounts, including cash, accounts receivable, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and accrued liabilities.
  • Assist with bank reconciliations and other account reconciliations as needed.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Review, code, and process vendor invoices and credit card transactions.
  • Assist with AP aging reviews and vendor statement reconciliations.
  • Process and record grant reimbursements, donations, and other cash receipts.
  • Respond to vendor and customer inquiries in a timely and professional manner.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Assist with monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Compile financial information for management reporting and external audits.
  • Research discrepancies, perform variance analysis, and assist with corrective actions.

Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Follow established accounting policies, procedures, and applicable accounting standards.
  • Maintain organized financial documentation and audit trails.
  • Support annual financial and grant audits by preparing schedules and requested documentation.

Department Support

  • Provide accounting assistance to internal departments related to budgets, credit cards, and financial questions.
  • Assist with process improvements designed to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support special projects, system upgrades, and implementation of new accounting processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1–3 years of accounting experience preferred.
  • Nonprofit or grant-funded accounting experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and standard accounting principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel; experience with VLOOKUP and pivot tables preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Professional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
  • Valid Oregon Driver’s License with a driving record that meets applicable insurance requirements.
