Territory Sales Engineer

Position Summary

The Territory Sales Engineer is a strategic, field-based sales professional responsible for driving revenue growth, expanding market share, and deepening customer relationships across an assigned geographic territory for the company’s full line of solid-state AC motor controls, Soft Starters, and motor protection products. This role manages a balanced portfolio of existing account development and new business generation— working directly with electrical distributors, key accounts, system integrators, engineering firms, and end users, while coordinating the selling activities of contracted Manufacturer’s Representatives within the territory. The ideal candidate combines strong technical knowledge of motor control and power electronics with proven consultative selling skills and a history of growing industrial accounts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Territory Strategy & Business Development

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive territory sales plan to grow the company product sales and market share within the assigned region, in alignment with company revenue targets and strategic objectives.
  • Identify, prioritize, and pursue new customer opportunities including electrical distributors, system integrators, engineering firms, and key accounts across key industries served by the company’s products.
  • Conduct regular account planning reviews; analyze territory performance, pipeline health, and market trends to identify gaps and opportunities for growth.
  • Manage and coordinate the selling activities of contracted Manufacturer’s Representatives within the territory; provide direction, training, product support, and joint customer calls to maximize rep effectiveness.
  • Administer and maintain distributor and channel partner agreements; ensure alignment with the company’s channel programs, pricing policies, and strategic initiatives.
  • Attend and represent the company at regional trade shows, industry events, and customer technical seminars within the territory.

Account Management & Customer Engagement

  • Maintain high-frequency, high-quality engagement with existing customers to ensure satisfaction, identify additional product opportunities, and protect and grow the installed base.
  • Serve as the primary The company field contact for assigned accounts — building trusted relationships with key decision-makers including engineers, operations managers, procurement personnel, and executive sponsors.
  • Conduct on-site customer visits, product demonstrations, lunch-and-learns, and technical presentations to educate customers and drive product specifications.
  • Ensure high post-sales satisfaction by coordinating with inside sales, application engineering, and customer service to resolve issues quickly and maintain strong long-term account relationships.
  • Provide product training to distributor sales teams, OEM engineers, and key account personnel to build product knowledge and preference for the company solutions throughout the channel.

 

Technical Sales & Application Support

  • Developing and applying your knowledge of the company’s Medium Voltage and Low Voltage Soft Starter product line and Motor Protection Products. Review customer applications needs to recommend the product solution that best fits their needs and financial and physical constraints for an optimal application solution— considering motor horsepower, voltage, load type, duty cycle, environmental conditions, and system requirements.
  • Review and interpret customer specifications, one-line diagrams, and technical documents to develop accurate and compliant proposals and quotations.
  • Provide pre-sales application support and collaborate with inside sales engineers and the engineering team on complex or custom product requirements.
  • Stay current on competitive products, pricing, market trends, and emerging applications in the motor control, soft starter, and drive industries; to communicate competitive intelligence to sales leadership and product management.

Quoting, CRM & Reporting

  • Prepare and present commercial and technical quotations; verify all commercial and technical aspects of proposals for accuracy and completeness prior to submission.
  • Provide regular updates on activities, market or perceived trends, market responses to our products.
  • Provide accurate and timely sales forecasts, pipeline reports, and territory business updates for sales management on a regular basis.
  • Track open opportunities through the full sales cycle from initial contact to order; follow up proactively to advance and close business.
  • Manage travel, expenses, and territory coverage efficiently and in compliance with company policies.

 

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical or business field; or equivalent combination of technical education and industry experience.
  • 5+ years of proven success in outside industrial sales or technical sales, with demonstrated experience growing territory revenue and managing distributor and OEM accounts.
  • Solid working knowledge of Reduced Voltage Starters, Medium Voltage and Low Voltage, Solid State AC Motor Controls, Motor Protection Products, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and Current and Voltage Transformers.
  • Broad based applications experience across multiple industry segments such as Water/Wastewater and Pumping, Oil & Gas, Marine, Manufacturing, HVAC and Refrigeration, Mining and Energy.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial sales channels including electrical distributors, OEM manufacturers, system integrators, and Manufacturer’s Representatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, motor nameplate data, and technical specifications.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills; able to engage credibly with both technical and commercial audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
  • Must reside within or adjacent to the assigned sales territory.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 50–70% within the assigned territory, including overnight travel.

 

 

Preferred

  • Direct experience selling Solid-State Soft Starters, SCR-based motor controls, Motor Protection products and Current and Voltage Transformers.
  • Established relationships within the electrical distribution channels and/or within OEM and system integrator accounts in relevant industries.
  • Experience managing and motivating a Manufacturer’s Representative network within a defined territory.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards including NEMA, IEC, NEC, and UL as applied to motor control equipment.
  • Experience working for a manufacturer of industrial motor controls, drives, or automation products (Benshaw, WEG, ABB, Eaton, Toshiba, Schneider Electric, Siemens, Rockwell, or similar).

 

Compensation & Benefits

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

 

  • Remote / field-based role; candidate must reside within the assigned sales territory.
  • Extensive travel required — estimated 50–70% including regular customer visits, distributor calls, trade shows, and occasional travel to Clearwater, FL headquarters.
  • Exposure to typical industrial and manufacturing facility conditions during customer site visits.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
