Chemical Applicator / Spray Technician

Pay: $17–$22 per hour
Schedule: Full-time, year-round
Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable, organized, and detail-oriented Chemical Applicator / Spray Technician with previous production nursery experience. This position is responsible for the safe and effective application of chemicals and treatments while maintaining accurate records, coordinating schedules, performing plant health checks, and supporting daily nursery operations.
This is an outdoor-focused position. Candidates must be comfortable working outside in a variety of weather conditions throughout the year.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely apply pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and other approved chemical treatments according to label requirements and company procedures.
- Schedule and coordinate chemical applications and treatment activities.
- Perform routine spot checking of plants, trees, crops, and treated areas to identify pests, diseases, weeds, or other issues.
- Monitor plant health and communicate concerns to management.
- Maintain accurate chemical application records, schedules, and documentation.
- Use Microsoft Office and computer systems for scheduling, recordkeeping, communication, and other administrative tasks.
- Monitor chemical and supply inventory and communicate when materials need to be replenished.
- Inspect, clean, and maintain spray equipment and report mechanical or safety concerns.
- Follow all chemical handling, PPE, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Maintain an organized work area, equipment, and chemical storage areas.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding applications, schedules, and plant health.
- Assist with general production nursery duties as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Previous professional chemical application/spraying experience is required.
- Previous production nursery experience is required.
- Experience working with nursery crops, trees, shrubs, or other plant material.
- Experience operating and maintaining spray/application equipment.
- Knowledge of common plant pests, diseases, weeds, and plant health issues.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required pesticide applicator licensing or certification.
- Basic to intermediate Microsoft Office/computer skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to perform thorough spot checks.
- Ability to follow chemical labels, written instructions, safety procedures, and application schedules.
- Dependable attendance and strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
- Bilingual skills are a PLUS!
Work Environment
- Approximately 80% outdoor work throughout the year.
- Approximately 20% office/computer work.
- Must be willing and able to work outdoors in changing weather conditions year-round.
- Position may require standing, walking, bending, lifting, and operating application equipment for extended periods.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have previous production nursery and chemical application experience, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to balance hands-on outdoor work with scheduling, recordkeeping, and computer responsibilities.
Pay Range: $17–$22 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
