Process Technician (Direct Hire)
Department Production – Reports to the Production Supervisor
Position Summary: This position is responsible for production assigned duties. This includes but is not limited to batch and process manufacturing, compliance responsibilities, inventory control, bulk material handling, and packaging. There are three categories for a Process Technician; C, B, & A where A is most senior and technically proficient. In addition, Process Technician A will be required as needed to fill in for the duties of Production Supervisors. Process Technician A will have a full understanding and ability to perform assigned tasks as well as assist Level B & C as well as Utility with their assigned tasks.
Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED in lieu of a diploma, a combination of experience and education may be considered.
- Minimum 2 – 5 years’ experience in the field
- Extensive knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the chemical manufacturing industry; previous work and/or substantial knowledge of, including commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures, within in the thermoset polymer industry is a strongly considered asset.
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve and execute job related tasks and project responsibilities semi-independently, exercising judgment in the areas of time management to facilitate completion of daily critical jobs as well as added daily assignments.
- Preferred previous / recent trainings such as HAZWOPER, DOT, HAZCOM
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally verbally and in writing, and to provide exceptional service internally and externally.
Preferred Requirements
Physical Requirements Must be capable of wearing Company standard respirators as qualified by fit test performed by an authorized agency.
- Must be capable of lifting between 25-70 lbs.
- This position requires consistent wearing of safety glasses, gloves, long pants, and closed-toe shoes; with additional specific PPE depending on the chemicals or materials handled, which could include respirators, hearing protection, or specialized gloves for hazardous substances.
Essential Functions Works directly with Production Supervisors, other Process Technician, Utility, and others in the safe handling of the equipment and chemical intermediates in both storage and use in production.
- Ascertain proper and sufficient verbal and written to execute daily and long-term goals.
- Have a good command and general working knowledge of manufacturing equipment (i.e. cooling tower fans and circulation pumps, chiller system, steam boilers, air compressors, reactors, and emergency shutdown procedures.)
- Comprehension of manufacturing techniques such as vacuum distillation, atmospheric controls, chemical addition, filtration methods, control of exothermic reactions, and adjustment of rates of addition within the operating requirement of equipment used.
- Understand and demonstrate compliance with HMIS, SDS’s, HAZCOM, General Safety, HAZWASTE, LO/TO, PSM, PPE protocol, and proper housekeeping.
- Inventory Control through cycle counts, batch log & MUS record keeping, and filling or transferring documentation.
- Executes tasks and project responsibilities as outlined and assigned from the compliance calendar, production worklist, expected delivery report, and verbal / written instructions from Supervisors and Management. Examples include batch monitoring for quality and cycle time, proper use on instructed PPE, respect for HAZCOM, and proper handling of waste items. Other examples include area checklist completion, waste area checklists completion, palletizing drum trailers, offloading bulk tank trailers, staging and verification of materials for production as well as packaging, etc.
- Assists in management and development of processes and safety programs.
- Manages inventory reduction per departmental inventory reduction strategy.
- Participate in process improvements and upgrades manufacturing instructions.
- Participates in all environmental and safety training as required by Federal, State, County, and Local regulations as well as company policies and demonstrates compliance through work practice.
- Compliance and follow through from trainings regarding RCRA, EPA, OSHA, and other company guidelines and trainings for assigned job duties.
- Suggests improvements for safety and compliance.
- Promptly reports any safety incidents and participates in incident investigations as requested.
- Additional duties may be added or removed as management requires.
