Plant Manager

Position Summary

The Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a manufacturing facility, including production, staffing, safety, quality, equipment, and overall operational performance. This position provides leadership to plant employees while developing and implementing processes that improve productivity, efficiency, quality, safety, and cost effectiveness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate daily manufacturing and plant operations.
  • Oversee production activities to ensure operational goals, schedules, and quality standards are met.
  • Lead, coach, and manage employees across plant departments.
  • Develop and implement processes to improve productivity, efficiency, quality, and overall performance.
  • Ensure established policies, procedures, and safety requirements are consistently followed.
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training employees.
  • Establish performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Address employee concerns, performance issues, and workplace challenges in a timely and professional manner.
  • Monitor plant equipment and ensure machinery is maintained in safe and proper working condition.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance, repairs, and replacement as necessary.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and responsible use of organizational resources.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility.
  • Monitor operational results and take corrective action when performance does not meet expectations.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate plant projects and initiatives to ensure completion within established timelines and budgets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Plant Manager is responsible for the leadership and supervision of plant personnel. Responsibilities may include:

  • Hiring, training, coaching, and developing employees.
  • Planning, assigning, and directing work.
  • Evaluating employee performance.
  • Recognizing strong performance and addressing performance concerns.
  • Resolving employee complaints and workplace issues.
  • Ensuring adequate staffing and coverage to support operational needs.
  • Developing employees and identifying opportunities for continued professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations Management, Manufacturing, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant manufacturing leadership experience may be considered.
  • Previous experience in plant management, production management, operations management, or a similar manufacturing leadership role.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing operations, productivity, quality, equipment, and workplace safety requirements.
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and decision-making abilities.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Basic to intermediate computer proficiency.

Work Environment

This position operates primarily within a manufacturing environment and requires regular interaction with production employees, supervisors, maintenance personnel, and other operational departments. The Plant Manager must be comfortable balancing administrative responsibilities with an active presence on the production floor.
