Mechanical Engineer
Description
The Mechanical Engineer leads the development of mechanical and electro-mechanical products by driving design analysis, validation planning, and cross-functional collaboration throughout the product development lifecycle. This role serves as the product expert, working closely with supply chain, manufacturing engineering, sales, quality, customers, and suppliers to ensure robust designs, proper validation, and manufacturability. The position also contributes to organizational strength by mentoring junior engineers, supporting cost and schedule estimates, and elevating engineering consistency and technical capability.
Key Job Elements
- Responsible for serving as the Technical Lead for new product development of mechanical and electro-mechanical products, including driving and supporting the team through a phase-gate product development process.
- Lead design analysis (FEA, CFD), design reviews, DFMEAs, PFMEAs, and DFM reviews.
- Function as the product expert, collaborating closely with internal cross-functional teams including supply chain, manufacturing engineering, sales, and quality to develop new products and support existing products.
- Interact externally with customers and suppliers on technical topics.
- Work closely with Program Management to estimate product cost and development timelines.
- Develop and write design validation test specifications, working closely with testing teams to ensure products are properly validated.
- Mentor and train junior engineers and drafters to help develop a strong, consistent engineering organization.
Requirements
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- Proficiency in 3D mechanical design software (SolidWorks preferred).
- Proficiency in one or more engineering analysis tools (FEA, CFD, tolerance stack analysis).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to understand and apply GD&T standards.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
- Experience with injection molding and die casting processes and design practices.
- Experience with seal design.
- Knowledge of CSA Class I, Division 2 and UL standards preferred.
