Job Title:                            Resident Wine Chef

Reports To:                       Director of Culinary and Events

 

Pay Grade:                        Requested hourly $40 - 45/hour, 32 - 40 Hours per week

 

 

Job Summary:

The Resident Winery Chef supports the preparation and execution of the winery’s culinary programs, including daily wine and food pairings for tasting room guests, trade lunches and dinners, internal department meals, and wine club and marketing events. This position requires strong supervisory skills, business acumen, organization, hands-on culinary expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to perform consistently in a guest-facing environment. The role is essential to delivering polished, hospitality-driven experiences while maintaining kitchen organization, quality standards, and operational efficiency. Availability Friday through Sunday, including frequent evenings, is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Culinary Production (100%)

  • Work closely with the Director of Culinary and Events to create and develop overarching culinary vision of the department.
  • Lead daily culinary operations and service execution to include:
    • Supervision and hands-on-execution of daily Wine and Food Pairings
    • Private event planning preparation and execution
    • Daily and weekly orders, inventory and organization
  • Schedule and daily supervise culinary staff and maintain consistency over time
  • Prepare, plate and present wine and food pairing experiences Wednesday - Sunday with consistency, precision, and professionalism.
  • Conduct daily inventories of prepared food for culinary options for the tasting room, events, and the wine and food pairing.
  • Conduct all ordering, receiving, and proper storage of food products
  • Maintain high culinary standards for flavor, technique, presentation, and cleanliness.
  • Maintain kitchen organization, sanitation, and food safety standards in compliance with health regulations.
  • Contribute to a positive, professional kitchen culture with a strong sense of teamwork and accountability

Job Requirements:

  • CA State-approved Managerial Food Safety Certification or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days; continued employment is contingent upon successful completion.
  • Valid CA Driver’s License and clean driving record.

Position Specifications:

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years Professional Kitchen experience.
  • Computer proficiency: Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and Zoom.
  • Proven ability to execute consistently in a high-quality, guest-facing environment
  • Previous experience as a Sous Chef in a quality-driven kitchen
  • Wine knowledge preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong foundational culinary skills with a solid understanding of cooking techniques and kitchen operations
  • High level of organization, cleanliness, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently while also taking direction and feedback
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up 50 lbs

Scheduling

  • Wednesday – Sunday: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
