Structural Steel Fitter-Welder

Salary: $42+/hour

An Edmonton client is seeking a Structural Steel Fitter-Welder to join their team.

Structural Steel Fitter-Welder Highlights:

• Read and interpret structural steel and fabrication drawings.
• Accurately lay out steel according to drawings, measurements, and specifications.
• Fit and assemble structural components, including beams, HSS, angle, plate, and other steel materials.
• Maintain required dimensions, squareness, elevations, alignment, and tolerances throughout fabrication.
• Fit and assemble complex structural components and assemblies.
• Tack, fit, and weld assemblies using FCAW (Flux-Core) and GMAW (MIG) processes.
• Anticipate weld shrinkage, movement, and distortion during fabrication.
• Use heat straightening and heat treatment techniques to correct distortion when required.
• Follow applicable drawings, work instructions, welding procedures, and quality requirements.
• Inspect completed fit-up and welding for accuracy, quality, and completeness.
• Identify and correct fabrication issues before assemblies move to the next stage of production.
• Operate band saws, drill presses, and other fabrication and shop equipment.
• Safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts.

Requirements:

• Previous experience in structural steel fitting, metal fabrication, or fitter-welding.
• Hands-on experience laying out and fitting structural steel.
• Experience working with beams, HSS, angle, plate, and similar structural materials.
• Strong understanding of dimensions, tolerances, squareness, and alignment.
• Experience with FCAW and MIG welding.
• Understanding of weld sequencing, shrinkage, and distortion.
• Comfortable fitting complex structural assemblies.
• Experience operating overhead cranes and forklifts.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced fabrication environment.

Hours & Wage:

• Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM
• Full-time
• $42.00+/hour, depending on experience
