Our client in Cedar Rapids, IA is looking for a Night Shift Nutritional Yeast Operator!
Position Summary: As a Nutritional Yeast Operator, you will help turn finished nutritional yeast into properly packaged products that are ready for customers. Most of your day will be spent on the production floor operating and monitoring processing and packaging equipment, checking product quality, recording production information, and keeping the equipment and surrounding areas clean. This is an active, hands-on position—not a job where you will remain at one workstation all day. You will move throughout the department, climb stairs or ladders, lift materials weighing up to 55 pounds, and work around industrial equipment. You may also encounter heat, cold, humidity, airborne particles, and wet areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Begin your shift by reviewing production needs and checking that your assigned equipment and work area are safe and ready to operate.
- Start, operate, and monitor equipment used to process and package nutritional yeast.
- Keep an eye on the production line to make sure the product is moving through the process correctly and packaging is being completed on time.
- Perform routine quality checks, such as verifying product results, package weights, and printed date codes.
- Record production totals, quality results, equipment readings, and other required information using written and electronic records.
- Watch for equipment issues, unusual noises, product concerns, or interruptions in the production process.
- Handle minor equipment or process problems when possible and notify maintenance or a supervisor when additional assistance is needed.
- Clean and sanitize machinery, production areas, floors, surrounding infrastructure, and other assigned areas to maintain food-safety standards.
- Move between different pieces of equipment and work areas as you become trained throughout the Nutritional Yeast Department.
- Communicate with coworkers and supervisors during shift changes and throughout production to keep operations running safely and efficiently.
- Safely operate nutritional yeast processing and packaging equipment.
- Monitor the production process and respond appropriately when something is not running correctly.
- Complete routine product-quality, package-weight, and date-code checks.
- Clean and sanitize equipment and production areas according to required procedures.
- Inspect equipment and report damage, maintenance needs, or safety concerns.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or at least three years of experience in a similar position.
- Manufacturing, machine-operating, food-production, or packaging experience is preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude and an interest in learning how production equipment works.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and accurately complete production records.
- Comfortable learning multiple machines and asking questions during training.
- Dependable, safety-conscious, and able to manage responsibilities without constant supervision.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a production team.
- Physical and Work Environment Requirements:
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb stairs or ladders.
- Frequently lift or move materials weighing up to 55 pounds.
- Work around moving machinery, elevated areas, fumes, airborne particles, and cleaning chemicals.
- Work in areas that may be hot, cold, wet, or humid.
- Wear required personal protective equipment, including hearing protection when necessary.
Hours:
- 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM
- Rotating Shifts
- 2 Days on, 2 Days off, 3 Days on, etc.
