Position Overview

A well-known Chicago bakery in the West Loop is seeking dependable Laborers for a temporary assignment while the building’s elevator is being serviced.

This is a physically demanding position that requires employees to transport bakery products, ingredients, equipment, and supplies between multiple floors using two flights of stairs. Candidates must be comfortable with frequent lifting, carrying, walking, and stair climbing throughout the shift.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry bakery goods, supplies, equipment, and materials between the lower, main, and upper levels using stairs.
• Transport bakery racks containing trays of products to the upper level for baking.
• Move mixing bowls, trays, dishes, dry stock, and other bakery supplies between floors.
• Carry incoming delivery boxes weighing approximately 10–50 pounds to designated areas. The bakery may receive approximately 100–150 boxes per week.
• Carry 50-pound bags of flour and sugar upstairs.
• Transport approximately 20–50 boxes of finished baked goods for outgoing deliveries and assist with loading vehicles as needed.
• Move approximately 50-pound mixing bowls, dirty trays, and dishes to the dishwashing area and return clean items to the appropriate floor.
• Assist bakery staff with moving supplies and materials as needed.

Additional Duties During Downtime

When not transporting products or supplies, Laborers will assist with general bakery support, including:

• Dishwashing
• Deep cleaning
• Sweeping and mopping
• Organizing work and storage areas
• Wiping down walls and surfaces
• Breaking down boxes
• Other general labor and cleaning duties as assigned

Requirements

• Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to repeatedly walk up and down two flights of stairs while carrying products and supplies.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the shift.
• Dependable and able to report to scheduled shifts on time.
• Comfortable working in an active bakery environment.
• Ability to follow instructions and work safely as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work available shifts between 5:30 AM and 9:00 PM, Sunday through Saturday.
• Must successfully complete required pre-employment screening, including a background check. Certain conviction history may be considered in accordance with applicable law and the requirements of the position.
