JOB TITLE: Field Services Technician

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

 

Performs a variety of manual labor, skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of public tap water and sewer service lines and equipment. Responds to customer service calls at homes and businesses, including after hours on an on-call basis.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

 

Work is performed under the supervision of the Field Services Supervisor.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

· Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of water distribution lines and equipment, sewer lines and lift stations, and related facilities and equipment.

 

· Inspects tap water distribution lines and sewer collection lines to ensure proper condition; cleans tap water distribution and sewer collection lines.

 

· Tests and monitors sewer lift stations and manholes for dangerous gases and uses proper safety precautions when entering underground areas; digs up and repairs damaged sections of pipe; operates a variety of equipment including forklifts, jackhammers, tampers and cutters; repairs pressure hoses; maintains assigned equipment.

 

· Assist in the coordination and inspection of contracted repair work; maintains records on work performed and inventories of needed supplies and materials; regularly inspects lift stations and may repair or replace valves or fittings; performs flow monitoring; may assist in the maintenance of records for locating District installed equipment, pipelines and relate facilities.

 

· Responds to questions and inquires from the public; sets up traffic safety devices at work sites; may respond to emergency repair calls.

 

· Serves as a utility first-responder during disasters such as hurricanes.

 

· Establishes positive working relationships with District management staff, other agencies and the public.

 

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

 

Knowledge of:

 

· Practices, techniques and materials used in the tap water distribution and sewer collection trades.

 

· Tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair activities.

 

· Operation and use of a variety of light, medium and heavy equipment.

 

· Occupational hazards and standard safety procedures.

 

Ability to:

 

· Read, understand, and follow posted work rules and procedures; follow oral and written directions.

 

· Meet the requirements to wear respiratory protection or other safety equipment.

 

· Prepare and maintain basic reports and records.

 

· Safely and effectively operate tools and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of sewer collection systems and relate facilities.

 

· Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
