Machine Operator – Grader Job Description

• 1^st Shift
• Monday through Thursday from 6am to 2pm (paid ½ hour lunch). 
• Overtime required (when needed)
• $18.50-$19.25 per hour

Position Summary:

Operate grading equipment to ensure proper sizing of material and maintain this equipment and work area.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Set up graders according to QC setup sheets distributed by the Plant Manager or QC Department.
• Operate grading equipment and check screens, rappers, material flow, valves, and related components.
• Position buckets beneath grader discharge spouts.
• Remove and stage full buckets in the designated area.
• Properly identify and label material using provided tags.
• Use a crane to lift buckets to wire saw tanks and discharge/scalp material into the proper tanks.
• Remove empty buckets to the main floor.
• Replace or repair screens as necessary.
• Address equipment malfunctions by unplugging pipes, removing foreign material, and clearing large particles. Report repairs beyond the scope of operator training to Maintenance.
• Make new screens when old screens are damaged.
• Clean screens and check rappers 2 to 3 times per day.

Other Tasks as Needed

• When idle due to bucket filling, equipment breakdowns, repairs, or when packaging support is needed because of employee absence or customer demand, packaging assignments may include:
• Paper bags
• Bulk bags
• Fiber drums
• May require multitasking while managing multiple buckets with different completion times

Education and Training

• Employees will be cross trained in other departments, including Crusher and Air table operations, to cover employee absences.
• Knowledge and Experience
• Some knowledge of mechanical equipment.
• Ability to operate scales and understand different units of weight (lbs/kg).
  • Ability to operate machinery safely.
• Ability to diagnose and correct minor issues such as plugged pipes and jammed magnetic separators.

Working Conditions

 

Use of respirators and ear protection is highly encouraged (provided).

Steel-toed boots required (annual allowance provided).

No music or earbuds on the floor.
