Operations Supervisor – Transportation & Fleet

Direct Hire | $75,000–$85,000 + Bonus | Potential Flexibility Near $90,000 | Near Rice Lake, WI

Good operations do not happen because a manager sends more emails.

They happen because a leader is visible, trusted and willing to ask the right questions.

Someone who can step into a fast-moving operation, coach employees instead of simply directing them, solve problems at the source and keep safety, service and productivity moving in the same direction.

Express Employment Professionals is recruiting an experienced Operations Supervisor for an established national essential-services organization in Northern Wisconsin.

This is not a sit-behind-the-desk management position. You will share leadership of approximately 30 professional drivers, spending time in the operation, riding along with employees, visiting customer locations, reviewing performance data and helping your team become safer, more efficient and more successful.

If you are an operations manager, transportation supervisor, warehouse supervisor, production supervisor or fleet leader who knows how to hold people accountable without losing their trust, this could be an exceptional next step.

Compensation and Benefits

  • $75,000–$85,000 annual salary
  • Potential flexibility near $90,000 for an exceptional candidate
  • Performance bonus eligibility
  • Strong benefits package
  • Retirement plan with company match
  • Employee stock purchase plan
  • Paid time off
  • Direct-hire opportunity with a stable national organization
  • Internal advancement and geographic mobility
  • Meaningful autonomy and visible impact on the operation

What You Will Lead

You will partner with another supervisor and the operations manager to lead a large driver team across a broad Northern Wisconsin service territory.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coaching, training and mentoring drivers through regular one-on-one conversations
  • Conducting in-cab observations and reinforcing safe work practices
  • Helping prevent accidents by identifying risks before they become incidents
  • Investigating performance, safety and service problems to determine the real root cause
  • Responding to call-offs, customer concerns and changing operational priorities
  • Improving routes, labor utilization, productivity and service reliability
  • Reducing missed pickups, unnecessary route hours and repeated service failures
  • Visiting customer sites to evaluate access, safety and service challenges
  • Improving maps, route notes and turn-by-turn instructions
  • Establishing productivity goals and following through on expectations
  • Using operational metrics to recognize trends and make sound decisions
  • Coordinating with dispatch, maintenance, sales and other operations leaders
  • Giving employees the tools, information and support needed to succeed
  • Building an engaged, accountable team that takes pride in its work

What Success Looks Like

The right Operations Supervisor will help create:

  • A safe, engaged and productive driver team
  • Fewer accidents and recurring safety concerns
  • Fewer missed pickups and customer-service failures
  • More efficient routes and better labor utilization
  • Stronger employee performance and accountability
  • Clearer, more accurate route information
  • Faster resolution of driver and customer concerns
  • Consistent achievement of productivity, service and budget goals
  • Employees who receive real coaching—not just correction when something goes wrong

The Leader We Are Looking For

This company is not looking for a command-and-control boss.

It needs a servant leader who listens, asks questions and understands the situation before making a decision. You must be approachable and respectful while remaining willing to have difficult conversations when safety, performance or customer commitments require it.

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Have successfully supervised employees and managed performance
  • Know how to coach different personalities without lowering expectations
  • Remain calm when priorities change or problems surface
  • Take initiative and follow issues through to completion
  • Use data and observation instead of assumptions
  • Can be firm without becoming rigid or dismissive
  • Look for ways to improve the operation instead of simply maintaining it
  • Care about developing employees—not just covering today’s work
  • Work well across departments and build productive relationships
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, humility, accountability and integrity

Experience We Need

  • At least one year of lead or supervisory experience is required
  • Successful direct people-management experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience leading drivers, field-service employees or another mobile workforce is highly valuable
  • Transportation, fleet, logistics, distribution, manufacturing, warehouse or service-operations experience is beneficial
  • Experience analyzing operational metrics and improving productivity is preferred
  • CDL or commercial-driving experience is helpful but not required
  • No specific degree is required

This is best suited to an established people leader—not someone looking for a first opportunity to supervise others.

Backgrounds That Could Transfer Well

Qualified candidates may currently hold titles such as:

  • Operations Supervisor
  • Operations Manager
  • Transportation Supervisor
  • Fleet Supervisor
  • Route Supervisor
  • Distribution Supervisor
  • Warehouse Supervisor
  • Warehouse Manager
  • Production Supervisor
  • Manufacturing Supervisor
  • Dispatch Supervisor
  • Driver Supervisor
  • Field Service Supervisor
  • Service Manager
  • Assistant Operations Manager
  • Experienced Driver Lead or CDL Lead

Leadership experience from high-volume parcel delivery, FedEx, UPS, LTL or regional trucking, distribution, warehousing, manufacturing, utilities, school transportation or field-service operations may transfer especially well.

Schedule and Work Environment

This is a fully on-site position near Rice Lake, Wisconsin. It is not hybrid or remote.

The typical workday begins between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m. and generally ends around 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. Later coverage may occasionally be necessary when operational issues arise.

The role combines office and field work. You must be comfortable:

  • Working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Managing interruptions and changing priorities
  • Riding in commercial trucks for approximately 30 minutes to several hours
  • Walking through yards and customer locations
  • Working around moving trucks and equipment
  • Spending time outdoors in heat, cold, noise, odors and dust
  • Traveling locally throughout the Northern Wisconsin service territory
  • Wearing appropriate uniforms and personal protective equipment when required

The Honest Part

This position will not appeal to everyone.

The days can be long. The operation does not stop simply because the calendar says the workday should be over. There will be call-offs, customer complaints, safety concerns, performance conversations and unexpected problems.

But if challenges make you curious rather than reactive—and if you like leaving an operation better than you found it—this role offers the chance to make a genuine difference.

You will have the authority to improve safety, strengthen service, develop employees and shape how a major operation performs every day.
