Express is partnering with a local equipment rental company in Shasta County.

About the Position:

We are seeking a construction Class B driver.  The Driver – Class B safely transports rental equipment while ensuring full compliance with DOT and company standards. This role supports customers by delivering, retrieving, inspecting, and demonstrating equipment, maintaining accurate documentation, and communicating feedback. The position also oversees vehicle and equipment condition, tracks inventory, and upholds a professional company image through safe operations and customer-focused service.

Job Description/ Responsibilities:

Operate load, unload, secure, and transport rental equipment using delivery trucks and trailers.
Follow delivery and pickup instructions from Dispatcher and/or Manager.
Maintain a safe working environment and observe all company, Department of Transportation (DOT), and Federal Motor Carrier safety procedures, laws, policies and rules.
Maintain an accurate Record of Duty Status log.
Perform daily DOT vehicle operational safety inspections.
Monitor, maintain, and inspect assigned delivery vehicles in accordance with manufacturer, company, and DOT guidelines.
Ensure all required registrations, permits, and inspections are current and valid.
Deliver and retrieve equipment to and from customer sites.
Inspect equipment for damage when picking up equipment from customers.
Determine each customer’s ability to use the equipment in a safe manner.
Demonstrate use of rental equipment to customers.
Track and maintain truck equipment inventory.
Wash, fuel, and maintain rental equipment as directed.
Promote positive company image through professional conduct and truck appearance.
Accurately relay customer concerns and feedback to the appropriate person.
Complete all rental and related documents in an accurate and timely manner.
Maintain regular, punctual, and predictable attendance.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, safely and in alignment with Peterson’s core values. Must maintain updated knowledge of applicable Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier regulations and requirements.
Knowledge of hydraulics, electronics, gas machinery, and diesel machinery preferred.

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and completion of certified truck driver training program; and a minimum of three (3) years of directly related commercial driving experience, preferably in a heavy industrial environment; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Must maintain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), current DOT Medical Certificate, and satisfactory driving record.

Ability to read and understand delivery instructions, safety procedures, DOT regulations, equipment manuals, and rental documentation. Strong verbal communication skills to interact professionally with customers, dispatchers, and supervisors. Ability to clearly explain equipment operation, accurately relay customer concerns, and document all required information in a clear, complete, and timely manner.

Ability to perform basic arithmetic to verify loads, track inventory, interpret fuel and mileage data, complete logs, and ensure accuracy of rental documents. Skill in estimating weights, distances, and space requirements when loading and securing equipment. Ability to confirm numerical compliance with DOT requirements and vehicle inspection criteria.

Ability to use electronic logging systems to maintain an accurate Record of Duty Status. Proficiency with basic office or mobile applications for completing rental documents, submitting reports, and communicating with dispatch. Capability to navigate equipment‑tracking or fleet‑management tools to update inventories and vehicle information as required.

Ability to assess load conditions, identify safety risks, and make sound decisions while securing and transporting equipment. Skill in evaluating equipment condition, determining customer readiness to operate equipment safely, and responding appropriately to unexpected issues. Capacity to prioritize tasks, follow regulatory requirements, and adjust to changing delivery and pickup needs.

Shift:

Work is performed in a combination of an office and field environment. Work outside the office and shop areas that may or may not have climate controls will be required. This is a full-time position. Days and hours worked will mirror the business operations which typically runs Monday – Friday. May work more than eight consecutive hours at a time or more than 40 hours in a seven-day work period depending on work demands. Occasional evening and weekend work will be necessary.
