Position Summary

The Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining manual and/or CNC machinery to produce precision metal or plastic components according to blueprints, specifications, and quality standards. This position requires strong mechanical ability, attention to detail, and the ability to use precision measuring instruments to ensure completed parts meet required tolerances.

The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, dependable, and capable of troubleshooting machining issues while consistently producing high-quality work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC and/or manual machines, including mills, lathes, grinders, drill presses, and other machining equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work orders, sketches, and technical specifications.
  • Determine appropriate machining methods, tools, speeds, feeds, and sequences of operation.
  • Load raw materials and properly secure parts, fixtures, and tooling.
  • Select, install, and adjust cutting tools, attachments, and machine components.
  • Enter, edit, or adjust machine programs and offsets as authorized.
  • Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections to verify dimensions and quality.
  • Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, indicators, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Machine parts within specified dimensions, tolerances, and production requirements.
  • Monitor machine operation and make adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues involving tooling, machine performance, programming, materials, or part quality.
  • Replace worn or damaged tools and report equipment problems promptly.
  • Remove burrs, sharp edges, and excess material from finished parts.
  • Complete production records, inspection reports, job travelers, and other required documentation.
  • Maintain proper identification and traceability of materials and completed parts.
  • Perform routine machine cleaning, lubrication, and preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow all safety procedures, quality standards, and company policies.
  • Meet established production, quality, and efficiency expectations.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, maintenance, and production personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous machining, CNC operation, tool-and-die, or related manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Knowledge of machining principles, cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and material properties.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments accurately.
  • Strong mechanical and mathematical skills, including decimals, fractions, and basic geometry.
  • Ability to work independently and follow detailed instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Ability to identify problems and make appropriate machine or tooling adjustments.
  • Willingness to follow all safety and quality procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a machining, manufacturing, or technical training program.
  • Two or more years of machining experience.
  • Experience with CNC mills and/or lathes.
  • Experience with manual machining equipment.
  • Knowledge of G-code and basic CNC programming.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software.
  • Experience working with tight tolerances.
  • Familiarity with ISO or other formal quality-management systems.
