Express Employment Professionals is seeking a dependable and motivated Lead Dock Worker for a client in Crescent City, CA. This is a hands-on leadership role in a commercial fishing operation, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys physical work, and has the ability to lead and coordinate a team.
Essential Job Duties
- Offload fish from commercial fishing vessels and verify quality and length standards.
- Weigh, label, and prepare seafood products according to standard operating procedures.
- Complete required Fish & Wildlife and FDA documentation accurately.
- Monitor live fish holding tanks to ensure proper water quality, temperature, salinity, and product viability.
- Inspect and maintain plumbing systems, pumps, and water flow to holding tanks.
- Prepare commercial fish, chiller tanks, shipping boxes, and other materials for product shipments.
- Package products with the team and load shipments onto semi-trucks.
- Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
- Communicate professionally with customers, vendors, and team members.
- Lead, coordinate, and assist with scheduling and timing of vessel offloading and daily workflow.
- Work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, overtime, and seasonal peak periods as business needs require.
- Perform duties in refrigerated environments and outdoor coastal weather conditions while wearing appropriate protective gear.
Qualifications
- Reliable, punctual, and dependable attendance.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience with the ability to direct and coordinate the work of others.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to repeatedly lift up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and frequently bend, stoop, kneel, push, pull, reach, and perform repetitive movements.
- Comfortable working in cold, wet, windy, and other outdoor coastal conditions.
- Experience in a commercial fishing facility, dock environment, seafood processing, warehouse, or related industry is preferred.
- Valid driver's license with a clean DMV record.
- Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen, consistent with applicable California law.
- Current forklift certification preferred. Employer will provide certification training if needed; certification is required for the position.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
