Schedule: Full-Time (Must be available for on-call rotations, nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency response as needed.)

 

Express Employment Professionals is seeking a dependable Water Utility Technician to join a municipal water distribution team in Alton, TX. This hands-on position is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining water distribution systems, including water mains, service lines, valves, hydrants, and meters. The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, has experience with underground utilities and heavy equipment, and is committed to safety and quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, repair, and maintain water mains, water service lines, valves, fittings, clamps, sleeves, and related water distribution infrastructure
• Perform water taps, service line installations, tie-ins, meter installations, and meter replacements
• Repair leaks and complete emergency repairs to the municipal water distribution system
• Cut, thread, bevel, and connect pipe using appropriate tools and equipment
• Flush water lines and restore landscaping or work areas after repairs are completed
• Locate and identify underground utilities using hand digging, shovels, or vacuum excavation equipment
• Work safely around existing underground water, sewer, electric, gas, and telecommunications utilities
• Excavate trenches and assist with pipe installation, backfilling, and site restoration
• Replace angle stops, meter boxes, and water meters
• Inspect, clean, and perform routine maintenance on tools, equipment, and vehicles
• Operate heavy equipment including backhoes, trenchers, dump trucks, boom trucks, air compressors, jackhammers, grinders, acetylene torches, boring equipment, and other construction equipment as needed
• Maintain compliance with all workplace safety standards and utility regulations
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Previous experience in water distribution, underground utilities, public works, construction, or utility maintenance
• Experience operating heavy equipment such as backhoes, trenchers, dump trucks, or similar equipment
• Knowledge of underground utility installation and repair practices
• Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment
• Ability to read and follow work orders, maps, and utility markings
• Strong attention to safety and teamwork
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, digging, and lifting
• Ability to work in trenches and around heavy equipment
• Must be available for emergency call-outs, after-hours repairs, weekends, holidays, and severe weather events

Work Environment

• Outdoor municipal utility and construction environment
• Exposure to varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, and underground utility work
• Frequent operation of heavy equipment and power tools
