Mechanical AutoCAD Operator (Mechanical CAD Drafter)

We are seeking a Mechanical AutoCAD Operator (Mechanical CAD Drafter) to produce detailed 2D and 3D mechanical drawings that support the fabrication, assembly, and installation of industrial equipment. This role works closely with engineering, project management, and fabrication teams to create accurate drawings, maintain revisions, and ensure all documentation meets company and industry standards.

 

Responsibilities

Drafting & Design

  • Create detailed mechanical drawings, layouts, and schematics using AutoCAD.
  • Convert engineering concepts, sketches, and specifications into fabrication-ready drawings.
  • Create, modify, and maintain DWG and DXF files to support fabrication, CNC programming, and manufacturing workflows.
  • Produce assembly drawings, part drawings, weld symbols, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Apply accurate dimensions, tolerances, and material callouts to all drawings.

Collaboration

  • Partner with engineers, designers, project managers, and fabrication teams to ensure design accuracy and resolve drawing questions.
  • Participate in design reviews and incorporate revisions as needed.
  • Communicate drawing updates and revisions to production personnel.
  • Coordinate with purchasing and manufacturing to ensure designs align with available materials and production capabilities.

Documentation & Revision Control

  • Maintain organized drawing files, revision histories, and project documentation.
  • Update drawings based on engineering changes, field modifications, and customer requests.
  • Ensure all drawings comply with company drafting standards and industry best practices.
  • Assist with maintaining CAD templates, libraries, and standard components.

Technical Support

  • Provide drawing clarification to fabrication, assembly, and installation teams.
  • Assist with cut lists, material lists, and production layouts.
  • Support engineers with basic design and modeling tasks as needed.

 

Qualifications

Required

  • 1–3 years of mechanical drafting experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD (2D required; 3D experience preferred).
  • Experience creating, modifying, and exporting DWG and DXF files for fabrication or manufacturing applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and schematics.
  • Understanding of mechanical drafting standards, GD&T, and fabrication practices.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes such as welding, machining, sheet metal, or equipment assembly.

 

Preferred

  • Experience with SolidWorks, Inventor, or other 3D CAD software.
  • Associate degree, technical certificate, or equivalent experience in drafting, mechanical design, or a related field.
  • Experience in equipment manufacturing, industrial systems, or custom fabrication.
