About This Opportunity

Express Employment Professionals – Timonium is recruiting Secret Shoppers to support a confidential age-compliance mystery shopping program on behalf of a client. This is a project-based assignment ideal for detail-oriented, reliable individuals who can follow instructions precisely and document their observations accurately.

Position Summary

As a Secret Shopper, you will visit assigned locations along a set route and attempt to purchase alcohol and/or tobacco products in order to evaluate whether staff correctly follow age-verification procedures. You will not pay for or complete any purchase — the purpose of each visit is solely to observe and document staff behavior during the attempted transaction. Your objective, accurate reporting helps the client assess compliance with age-verification laws and internal policies.

Key Responsibilities

• Visit assigned locations at scheduled times, in the order provided, without identifying yourself as an evaluator
• Attempt to purchase alcohol and/or tobacco products as instructed; do not pay for or complete any purchase
• Once a route is started, complete all assigned stops on that route in full
• Observe whether staff request identification and follow proper age-verification procedures
• Record accurate, detailed descriptions of the staff member(s) involved in each attempted purchase (e.g., physical description, approximate age, name/nametag if visible)
• Complete a detailed, accurate evaluation report for each stop within the required timeframe
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding the program and client identity
• Communicate professionally with the Express Employment Professionals program coordinator

Qualifications

• Must meet age requirements specified by the program for the products being tested
• Reliable transportation to travel to assigned locations along the designated route
• Strong written communication skills with keen attention to detail
• Ability to observe discreetly, follow instructions precisely, and maintain objectivity
• Comfortable approaching staff to attempt a purchase without completing it
• Reliable and able to commit to completing an entire route once it begins
• Smartphone or computer access to complete online evaluation forms
• Prior mystery shopping or compliance-check experience a plus (not required)
• Must be able to pass a background check, if required by program guidelines

Schedule & Assignment Details

• Flexible, on-call assignments based on availability and route needs
• Once a shopper begins a route, all assigned stops must be completed
• Number of stops per route will vary based on program needs

Compensation

• $20/hour
• $20 gas bonus per completed route
• No purchases are made or reimbursed — shoppers do not pay for any products
