Job Summary

The Mechanical & Facilities Technician is responsible for supporting the maintenance and reliability of manufacturing equipment, facilities, and infrastructure. This position performs preventative maintenance (PMs), light mechanical repairs, equipment inspections, and general building maintenance to help ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, safety-focused, and enjoys a variety of hands-on work.


Essential Responsibilities

Preventative Maintenance

  • Complete scheduled preventative maintenance tasks on manufacturing equipment.
  • Perform inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and routine servicing.
  • Document completed work in the CMMS or maintenance tracking system.
  • Report equipment deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.

Mechanical Support

  • Perform light mechanical repairs on production equipment.
  • Replace bearings, belts, chains, rollers, gears, seals, and similar components.
  • Assist with equipment troubleshooting and repairs under the direction of senior maintenance personnel.
  • Support equipment installations, moves, and upgrades.

Facilities Maintenance

  • Perform routine building maintenance including doors, docks, lighting, plumbing fixtures, compressed air piping, and general facility repairs.
  • Maintain production work areas, maintenance shop, and equipment rooms.
  • Assist with seasonal facility maintenance including HVAC filter changes, snow removal coordination, and exterior inspections.
  • Support vendor activities and contractors as needed.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
  • Utilize proper Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas using 5S principles.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions.

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Recommend improvements to PM procedures and equipment reliability.
  • Help reduce equipment downtime through proactive maintenance.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical or vocational training in mechanical maintenance preferred.

Experience

  • 2+ years of maintenance or mechanical experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance.
  • Experience using hand and power tools.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic understanding of bearings, conveyors, belts, chains, gearboxes, and power transmission.
  • Ability to read equipment manuals and maintenance instructions.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb stairs and ladders.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Work in manufacturing environments with varying temperatures and noise levels.
  • Ability to work around moving machinery while following all safety procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Forklift and aerial lift certification (or ability to obtain).
  • Basic welding or fabrication experience.
  • Basic plumbing experience.
  • Experience operating scissor lifts and boom lifts.
