Maintenance Technician - Commercial & Industrial Painter

Job Summary
Responsible for performing commercial and industrial painting on facility structures, production equipment, floors, walls, machinery, and other plant assets. This role helps maintain a safe, clean, and professional work environment while protecting equipment and facilities through proper surface preparation, painting, and finishing techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, grinding, pressure washing, masking, and patching.
  • Apply primers, industrial coatings, paints, and protective finishes using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment.
  • Paint equipment, machinery, floors, walls, ceilings, guardrails, safety markings, and facility structures.
  • Perform touch-up work and repair damaged painted surfaces.
  • Ensure high-quality finishes and proper coating application.
  • Safely mix, handle, store, and dispose of paint materials and chemicals.
  • Assist with general facility maintenance and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Perform minor repairs and facility improvement projects.
  • Maintain painting tools, spray equipment, ladders, scaffolding, and lifts.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe.
  • Report facility issues and recommend improvements to equipment appearance and longevity.

Safety & Quality

  • Follow OSHA regulations and workplace safety procedures.
  • Properly use PPE, respirators, fall protection, lifts, and other safety equipment.
  • Maintain accurate work practices and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure work areas remain hazard-free and organized.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 3+ years of commercial, industrial, or facility painting experience preferred.
  • Manufacturing or industrial environment experience preferred.
  • Experience with spray painting equipment and industrial coatings.
  • Knowledge of surface preparation, coating application, and finishing techniques.
  • Ability to operate ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, and common maintenance tools.
  • Ability to read work instructions, specifications, and safety documentation.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work at heights for extended periods.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures, dust, noise, and paint-fume environments.
  • Ability to wear required PPE and distinguish colors for coating quality and coverage inspections.
