This is a full-time, professional-level opportunity for an accounting and finance leader with strong experience in financial reporting, budgeting, grants, compliance, and audit coordination.

About the Position

The Controller will work closely with senior financial leadership to oversee and support the organization's financial operations. This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, managing budgets, overseeing grant and contract accounting, supporting compliance, and coordinating annual audits.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting knowledge, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with leadership and department managers.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with management and oversight of Finance and Billing Department operations.
• Support the preparation and administration of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports.
• Ensure financial reports for grants, contracts, and funding agencies are accurate and submitted on time.
• Prepare financial drawdowns and monitor grant and contract funding.
• Review general ledger accounts, reconciliations, expense classifications, and adjusting journal entries.
• Analyze financial and budget reports and provide guidance to department managers.
• Ensure financial transactions are accurately coded, documented, and compliant with organizational and contractual requirements.
• Maintain financial records and documentation for grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements.
• Assist with federal contract negotiations and monitoring of financial compliance requirements.
• Develop and monitor cost center plans for grants and contracts.
• Support banking, investments, borrowing, and related financial activities.
• Coordinate and support annual financial audits, including documentation, research, and resolution of audit findings.
• Assist with financial forecasting and short- and long-term financial planning.
• Prepare and submit an annual Federal Indirect Cost Rate Proposal.
• Prepare and submit the Annual Medicare Cost Report.
• Prepare and submit OMAP Rural Health Center Encounter Rate Proposals as needed.
• Provide financial information and analysis to organizational leadership and governing committees.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of financial, medical, and other sensitive information.
• Provide backup support for related financial functions and other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting OR Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required.
• Three or more years of demonstrated experience supervising financial personnel.
• Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Experience with computerized accounting and financial management systems.
• Strong understanding of accounting functions including accounts payable, payroll, accounts receivable, purchasing, property, and financial reporting.
• Experience with budgeting and financial analysis.
• Ability to prepare, interpret, and communicate financial reports.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and exercise sound professional judgment.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with applicable privacy and healthcare requirements.
• Must be willing to complete a comprehensive background investigation and meet applicable healthcare employment requirements.
• Must be available to work occasional evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) principles.
• Experience with federal grants and contracts.
• Experience with government or fund accounting.
• Experience preparing consolidated governmental financial statements and related schedules.
• Experience working with tribal organizations or programs operating under P.L. 93-638.
• Experience with MAS 90/200 or similar financial accounting systems.
• Advanced Excel/spreadsheet skills.
