Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Job Overview

Express Employment Professionals is hiring an experienced Manual Machinist for a custom machine and metal fabrication shop in the Salem area.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled machinist who enjoys precision work, problem-solving, and producing high-quality custom parts and repairs using manual machining equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual lathes, mills, grinders, drill presses, and other machining equipment
  • Machine, repair, and modify custom metal components
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders
  • Measure and inspect parts using precision measuring tools, including micrometers and calipers
  • Maintain close tolerances and ensure quality standards are met
  • Select tooling and determine proper machining methods
  • Deburr, finish, and inspect completed parts
  • Follow all shop safety procedures and maintain a clean work area
  • Collaborate with fabrication and welding teams on custom manufacturing projects

Qualifications

  • Previous manual machining experience required
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings
  • Knowledge of machining processes, tooling, feeds, and speeds
  • Experience operating manual mills and lathes
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a custom machine shop or job shop environment
  • Welding or fabrication experience is a plus
  • Experience with repair, prototype, or one-off machining projects
