Position Summary

We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Purchasing Agent to join a growing composites manufacturing team. This onsite position is responsible for managing requisition-driven purchasing activities while coordinating inbound and outbound logistics to ensure uninterrupted production and on-time customer deliveries.

The Purchasing Agent will convert approved requisitions into purchase orders, communicate with suppliers, monitor order status, and coordinate material deliveries to support manufacturing operations. This individual will serve as a key liaison between vendors, production, inventory, and management to maintain efficient supply chain operations.

The ideal candidate is proactive, dependable, and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and experience with purchasing and logistics are essential.

About the Role

This position supports the procurement and movement of raw materials, consumables, tooling, equipment, and finished goods used in composite manufacturing. The Purchasing Agent plays a vital role in maintaining production schedules by ensuring materials are purchased, tracked, and delivered on time while helping control costs and maintain supplier relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Purchasing & Procurement

  • Review approved internal purchase requisitions and generate accurate purchase orders.

  • Issue purchase orders to approved suppliers in a timely manner.

  • Verify pricing, quantities, lead times, and delivery schedules with vendors.

  • Monitor open purchase orders from placement through delivery.

  • Proactively follow up with suppliers to resolve delays, shortages, pricing discrepancies, or quality concerns.

  • Maintain accurate purchasing records, vendor files, and order documentation.

  • Coordinate purchasing priorities with production, inventory, engineering, and management teams.

  • Assist in identifying cost-saving opportunities and alternative sourcing options.

  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels while minimizing excess stock.

Logistics & Supply Chain Coordination

  • Coordinate inbound shipments to ensure timely receipt of materials.

  • Schedule outbound shipments of finished products to customers.

  • Work with freight carriers, shipping providers, and vendors to optimize transportation.

  • Track shipments and provide updates on delivery status.

  • Resolve shipping discrepancies, damaged freight, and transportation issues.

  • Ensure shipping documentation is complete and accurate.

Vendor Management

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with suppliers.

  • Evaluate vendor performance related to quality, pricing, responsiveness, and delivery.

  • Assist with sourcing new suppliers when needed.

  • Support negotiations for pricing, lead times, and purchasing agreements.

Inventory Support

  • Monitor inventory levels and replenish materials as needed.

  • Coordinate with warehouse personnel regarding incoming materials.

  • Assist with inventory accuracy and cycle counts.

  • Help prevent production interruptions by maintaining critical material availability.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain purchasing reports and order status logs.

  • Enter purchasing data accurately into the ERP or inventory management system.

  • Prepare documentation for audits and management reporting.

  • Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • 2+ years of purchasing, procurement, logistics, or supply chain experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.

  • Experience using ERP, MRP, or purchasing software.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred

  • Experience in composites, aerospace, marine, automotive, or industrial manufacturing.

  • Knowledge of inventory management and production scheduling.

  • Understanding of freight coordination and shipping documentation.

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, or a related field.
