Position Overview

The SMT Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining Surface Mount Technology (SMT) production equipment, ensuring product quality, meeting production schedules, and complying with safety, quality, ESD, ITAR, and QMS requirements. The role requires working across multiple SMT processes and equipment while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Obtain and maintain IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 certifications.
  • Operate SMT equipment including:
    • Europlacer pick-and-place machines
    • Stencil printers
    • Reflow ovens (convection and vapor phase)
    • X-ray systems
    • 3D AOI and SPI systems
    • Vision Master equipment
    • In-line and batch washers
  • Load Europlacer trolleys and analyze PROMON production data.
  • Perform in-process inspections and assist AOI review inspection activities.
  • Conduct daily preventative maintenance on production equipment.
  • Use MES systems to track production status and labor time.
  • Perform depaneling operations according to work instructions.
  • Follow all production documentation, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Support Lean manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Maintain 5S workplace organization standards.
  • Act as a role model for safety, quality, ESD, ITAR, and QMS compliance.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience operating Europlacer pick-and-place equipment.
  • IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 certifications.
  • Two years of SMT machine operation experience.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to multitask effectively.
  • Pass a vision exam with at least 20/25 visual acuity in one eye (with or without corrective lenses).
  • Pass a color vision test to accurately identify color-coded components and materials.
