About the Company
Our client is an international import, storage, and distribution company specializing in heavy machinery parts and equipment sourced from global suppliers, primarily in Thailand and China. The company supports major industrial brands, including Caterpillar and John Deere, and has recently opened a new warehouse facility in Shorewood, Illinois to expand service capabilities throughout the Midwest.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing organization at the ground level and play a key role in building warehouse operations, processes, and infrastructure for future growth.
Position Summary
The Warehouse Manager will be responsible for establishing and optimizing all warehouse operations at the company's newly opened Shorewood facility. This individual will oversee inventory management, inbound and outbound logistics, daily warehouse activities, and staff supervision while helping create scalable processes to support continued expansion.
The ideal candidate will have Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) warehouse experience or a minimum of three years of warehouse management experience in a distribution or industrial environment.
This position requires a hands-on leader who is comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment with significant operational growth anticipated over the coming months.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and implement warehouse processes, procedures, and operating schedules
- Manage all inbound shipments from international suppliers in China and Thailand
- Coordinate and finalize inbound and outbound shipping schedules
- Oversee receiving, inventory storage, picking, packing, and shipping operations
- Supervise and direct warehouse personnel, currently consisting of:
- 3 Full-Time Associates
- 3 Part-Time Associates
- Assign daily work and monitor productivity
- Maintain accurate inventory records through cycle counts and inventory control practices
- Improve warehouse workflow, organization, and operational efficiency
- Support quality assurance and rework activities for incoming products when necessary
- Ensure safe handling of small parts (pins, bushings, and related components) as well as large heavy equipment parts
- Coordinate the movement of larger products utilizing overhead crane equipment
- Manage a shipping schedule currently operating three days per week
- Communicate regularly with company leadership located outside the United States
- Assist with future expansion initiatives, including warehouse growth and development of available land at the facility
Qualifications
Required
- Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) warehouse experience or
- Minimum of 3 years of warehouse management experience
- Strong inventory control and cycle count experience
- Experience with shipping and receiving operations
- Ability to lead and motivate warehouse staff
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Experience implementing or improving warehouse processes and workflows
- Comfortable working independently and communicating with remote leadership
Preferred
- Experience in industrial, manufacturing, equipment, machinery, or parts distribution environments
- Experience handling large, heavy products
- Experience working with overhead cranes or similar material handling equipment
- Knowledge of international shipping and import logistics
What to Expect
This role offers a unique opportunity to help build and shape a growing warehouse operation from the ground up. Candidates should expect a significant ramp-up period as processes, schedules, and operational standards are established.
Current warehouse operating hours are approximately 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with operations presently supporting activity seven days per week as the business continues to grow.
