Letter Inserter / Production Print Operator

Position Summary

The Letter Inserter / Production Print Operator is responsible for producing, printing, assembling, and preparing customer communications for mailing using high-capacity production inkjet printers and automated inserting equipment. This position ensures accurate print production, mail assembly, quality control, and timely completion of daily production schedules while maintaining safety and operational standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Production Printing

· Operate high-capacity production inkjet printers and related finishing equipment.

· Load paper, ink, and other consumables required for production jobs.

· Monitor print quality, registration, and output to ensure compliance with customer specifications.

· Perform routine printer setup, adjustments, and operator-level maintenance.

· Troubleshoot printing issues and escalate equipment problems when necessary.

· Review and verify print files, job tickets, and production instructions prior to processing.

· Maintain production logs and document completed work.

Mail Inserting & Assembly

· Operate automated mail inserting and envelope-processing equipment.

· Load letters, statements, brochures, and inserts according to job specifications.

· Verify proper document sequencing and matching before insertion.

· Monitor equipment for jams, misfeeds, and quality issues.

· Perform routine machine adjustments to maintain productivity and accuracy.

· Conduct quality inspections to ensure proper insertion, sealing, and addressing of mail pieces.

· Sort, tray, bundle, and prepare mail for postal delivery or shipment.

 

Quality Assurance

· Perform quality control checks throughout the printing and inserting processes.

· Ensure all printed materials and mailings meet customer and regulatory requirements.

· Identify and report production defects, discrepancies, and process improvements.

· Maintain accurate production and quality records.

Safety & Housekeeping

· Follow all company safety policies and procedures.

· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

· Adhere to equipment operating guidelines and preventative maintenance procedures.

· Assist with other mailroom, print production, or fulfillment activities as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

· High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience

· Previous experience in a print production, mailroom, fulfillment, or manufacturing environment preferred.

· Experience operating high-volume production inkjet printers preferred.

· Experience operating inserting, finishing, or mailing equipment preferred.

Skills and Abilities

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

· Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

· Ability to interpret job tickets, production instructions, and mailing requirements.
