Position Summary

The Project Engineer is responsible for managing capital expenditure (CapEx) projects, continuous improvement initiatives, and process improvement projects across the organization. This role also supports the maintenance and optimization of existing equipment for fibre manufacturing and fabrication operations as required.

 

The Project Engineer reviews existing processes, develops improved designs and modifications, implements and tests solutions, and provides technical support for troubleshooting equipment, components, and systems. Success in this role requires strong project management, process automation, troubleshooting, and Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage assigned CapEx, continuous improvement, and process improvement projects from quotation through final testing and handover to production.
• Direct and coordinate project planning and implementation while ensuring compliance with specifications, applicable codes, standards, and safety requirements.
• Review completed projects to ensure objectives have been achieved.
• Develop calculations, engineering designs, and concepts for new projects, process improvements, equipment repairs, and modifications.
• Design and implement modifications, including PLC programming changes, automation improvements, and mechanical modifications.
• Prepare specifications for materials and equipment purchases and procure required materials.
• Coordinate with contractors to complete projects and equipment modifications.
• Create and modify engineering drawings using AutoCAD or similar CAD software.
• Plan and execute projects through the ERP system.
• Monitor project progress, schedules, budgets, and completion timelines.
• Provide technical expertise in identifying, analyzing, and resolving engineering and operational issues.
• Support maintenance teams by troubleshooting equipment issues and implementing permanent solutions to reduce downtime.
• Prepare technical reports, engineering documentation, calculations, and drawings.
• Conduct technical studies and recommend practical engineering solutions.
• Develop conceptual designs and project specifications.
• Prepare project cost estimates.
• Develop equipment and plant layouts to maximize production throughput.
• Manage project implementation, including resource planning and scheduling.
• Make technical decisions throughout the project lifecycle.
• Maintain accurate records of project resources.
• Stay current with engineering developments, industry trends, and best practices, and share knowledge within the organization.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Experience

• 5–8 years of project management and process improvement experience, preferably within fibre manufacturing/processing.
• Manufacturing industry experience is required.
• Experience with process automation, Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM), using AutoCAD or similar CAD software.
• Understanding of inventory management to support CIM solutions and improvements.

• Strong understanding of conveyor systems, automation, and mechanical systems.
• General 2D CAD experience.
• Financial and project budget management experience.

Working Conditions

• 100% on-site position.
• Based in GTA
• Occasional travel may be required based on project requirements.
• Ability to conduct and attend presentations.
• Manual dexterity required to use a computer and related peripherals.

• May be exposed to manufacturing and construction environments.
• Weekend work may be required.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: Up to $95,000/year (based on experience)
• RRSP Match: Up to $2,000 annually
• Vacation: Up to 3 weeks paid vacation
