Counter Sales Associate / Counter Helper

Location: Union County, NJ
Schedule: Full-Time | Monday – Friday
Pay: $18.00 – $23.00 per hour, based on experience

Position Summary

Our client, a well-established plumbing supply distributor, is seeking a dependable and customer-focused Counter Sales Associate / Counter Helper to join its team. This role is perfect for someone with knowledge of the plumbing or construction trades who enjoys helping customers, solving problems, and working in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate will assist contractors, plumbers, and walk-in customers by identifying products, processing orders, and providing exceptional customer service while supporting daily warehouse and counter operations.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers at the sales counter with product selection and order processing

• Provide outstanding customer service to contractors, plumbers, and retail customers

• Answer phones and respond to customer inquiries regarding products, pricing, and availability

• Enter customer orders accurately into the computer system

• Recommend products and solutions based on customer needs

• Pull and stage orders for customer pickup

• Assist with receiving and stocking inventory

• Maintain an organized, clean, and well-stocked sales counter and warehouse

• Work closely with warehouse staff to ensure accurate and timely order fulfillment

• Learn product lines and stay current on inventory and new products

• Support general warehouse and counter operations as needed

Qualifications

• Previous customer service or counter sales experience preferred

• Knowledge of the plumbing, HVAC, construction, or building supply industry is strongly preferred

• Familiarity with plumbing materials, fittings, valves, and related products is a plus

• Strong computer skills with the ability to quickly learn inventory and order management software

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Friendly, professional, and customer-focused attitude

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed

• Reliable, punctual, and a team player
