Job Summary
Responsible for preparing metal equipment, tanks, piping, structures, and components for coating, painting, or repair through abrasive blasting and surface preparation techniques. Ensures all work is performed safely in compliance with chemical plant safety standards, environmental regulations, and company procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform abrasive blasting on tanks, vessels, piping, structural steel, and industrial equipment.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting, coating, lining, and corrosion protection applications.
  • Operate sandblasting, grit blasting, pressure blasting, and related equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Inspect surfaces before and after blasting to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Remove rust, scale, paint, corrosion, and other contaminants from metal surfaces.
  • Mix, load, and maintain blasting media and equipment.
  • Follow confined space, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and hazardous materials safety procedures.
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, grinders, and related equipment as required.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of blasting equipment.
  • Read and follow work orders, safety procedures, and project specifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed work and equipment inspections.
  • Assist with industrial painting and coating projects as needed.
  • Keep work areas clean and compliant with housekeeping and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in sandblasting, industrial surface preparation, manufacturing, construction, or refinery/chemical plant environments preferred.
  • Ability to operate blasting and surface preparation equipment safely.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety practices and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions and specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds routinely.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and industrial environments.
  • Must be able to wear respirators, protective suits, hearing protection, and other required PPE.
