Shipping & Receiving Associate Job Description

Position Summary

The Shipping & Receiving Associate is responsible for the accurate receipt, inspection, storage, packaging, and shipment of products and materials. This role ensures inventory accuracy, maintains warehouse organization, and follows all company safety and quality standards while meeting shipping and receiving deadlines.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Receive incoming shipments and verify quantities against purchase orders and packing slips.
  • Inspect incoming materials for damage, defects, or discrepancies and report issues to management.
  • Prepare, package, label, and ship outgoing orders accurately and on schedule.
  • Load and unload trucks using forklifts, pallet jacks, or other warehouse equipment.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records using warehouse management systems or ERP software.
  • Pick, pack, and stage customer orders for shipment.
  • Organize and stock inventory in designated warehouse locations.
  • Conduct routine cycle counts and assist with physical inventory.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Work closely with production, purchasing, and customer service departments to ensure timely order fulfillment.
  • Perform other warehouse duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous shipping, receiving, warehouse, or logistics experience preferred.
  • Forklift certification or the ability to become certified.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with inventory management systems is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach throughout the workday.
  • Ability to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment safely.
  • Work in a warehouse environment with varying temperatures.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with UPS, FedEx, DHL, or other shipping software.
  • Knowledge of inventory control and warehouse procedures.
  • Experience with barcode scanners and RF devices.
  • Strong time management and multitasking abilities.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.
