Position Overview

Express Employment Professionals is seeking a dependable Recycling Sorter to join a busy recycling operation in Waterloo. This position works in the "picking house," sorting recyclable metals from non-conforming materials while helping process a variety of salvaged equipment and vehicles. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, enjoy hands-on work, and be committed to maintaining a safe and productive work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sort recyclable metals and remove non-conforming materials
  • De-manufacture vehicles and equipment including automobiles from salvage yards, agricultural equipment, and industrial machinery
  • Learn to identify different types of metals and recyclable materials
  • Perform shoveling, sweeping, and general housekeeping duties throughout the facility
  • Clean work areas and remove debris before and after each shift
  • Assist with light maintenance tasks as needed
  • Use hand tools safely and effectively
  • Learn to operate recycling and processing equipment
  • Follow all workplace safety procedures and guidelines
  • Work both indoors in the picking house and outdoors as required

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in manufacturing, farming, recycling, or a similar hands-on environment preferred
  • Ability to stand and remain active for the majority of the shift
  • Comfortable performing repetitive motions throughout the day
  • Full range of motion and ability to work in a physically demanding environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs; team lifting required for heavier items
  • Willingness to learn different metal types and equipment operation
  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic
  • Ability to work safely and effectively as part of a team

Work Environment & Safety Equipment:

  • Picking house is heated during the winter and air-conditioned during the summer
  • Employer provides hearing protection, safety glasses, safety vests, and hard hats
  • Employee must provide steel-toed boots which is a required piece of uniform
