HVAC Design Engineer

Phoenix, AZ Metro Area  ||  On-Site || $80,000-$95,000 Salary

Are you the type of engineer who enjoys seeing your designs come to life in the real world — not just on a screen?

We're looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented Design Engineer to support the design and development of custom HVAC systems used in mission-critical environments. This is an opportunity to join a growing engineering and manufacturing organization where your work directly impacts production, installation, and customer success.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving practical engineering challenges, collaborating across departments, and designing systems that actually get built. There's also long-term potential to grow into a design leadership role, helping set the rules and standards the rest of the design team works from.

What You'll Do

  • Design and revise custom HVAC systems, assemblies, and fabrication drawings
  • Create accurate, production-ready drawing packages using SolidWorks
  • Collaborate with systems, controls, electrical, production, and field teams throughout the project lifecycle
  • Get out on the production floor to identify design issues and develop solutions that can be standardized across the board
  • Support real-world manufacturability and installation feasibility
  • Assist with component selection, layouts, and engineering documentation
  • Utilize and maintain PDM systems, revision control, and engineering records
  • Troubleshoot and resolve design-related production or installation challenges
  • Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing rework and material costs

What We're Looking For

  • 3–5 years of design engineering experience (candidates with more experience are welcome to apply)
  • HVAC industry experience required
  • Strong SolidWorks or similar CAD experience
  • Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) a strong plus
  • Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
  • Experience working with PDM systems and engineering documentation
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of manufacturing processes
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field highly preferred
  • Goal-oriented with genuine grit — someone who takes ownership and goes the extra mile for the team
  • Strong problem-solving, organization, and communication skills; comfortable working cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment

Essential Functions

  • Lift up to 20 lbs
  • Ability to maintain composure while working under pressure during emergent situations
  • Ability to safely perform moderate physical activity such as standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, crawling, and walking for extended periods (up to 8 hours/day)
  • Ability to safely work for extended periods (up to 8 hours/day) at a computer with minimal activity
  • Occasional travel to customer locations to provide in-person technical expertise as needed

What Makes This Role Different

  • This is not a purely theoretical engineering role — you'll work closely with production and field teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and installation-ready
  • The best candidates for this role enjoy balancing technical precision with real-world problem solving
  • You'll be part of a collaborative team where engineering, operations, and manufacturing work closely together to deliver innovative HVAC solutions for mission-critical applications
