Job Description: Scalehouse Laborer

Position Summary

The Scalehouse Laborer supports the daily operations of the scalehouse by assisting with truck traffic, logistics coordination, and material documentation. Working closely with the Scalehouse Manager, this position helps ensure efficient movement of inbound and outbound loads while maintaining accurate records and providing excellent customer service to drivers, customers, and vendors. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and able to work in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist the Scalehouse Manager with daily logistics and scheduling of inbound and outbound truck traffic.
• Weigh trucks entering and leaving the facility using computerized scale systems.
• Verify load information and accurately prepare scale tickets, shipping documents, and other required paperwork.
• Coordinate with production, dispatch, truck drivers, and customers to ensure timely movement of materials.
• Maintain accurate records of deliveries, shipments, inventory movements, and customer transactions.
• Communicate effectively with drivers regarding loading locations, safety procedures, and facility expectations.
• Answer phones, respond to customer inquiries, and direct visitors as needed.
• Monitor truck flow to minimize delays and maintain efficient operations.
• Perform general housekeeping duties in and around the scalehouse.
• Assist with inventory tracking, reporting, and administrative tasks as assigned.
• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Scalehouse Manager or management team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous experience in logistics, shipping and receiving, scalehouse operations, dispatching, or customer service is preferred but not required.
• Basic computer skills with the ability to learn scale software and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
• Frequent walking throughout the facility.
• Occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds.
• Ability to work in an industrial environment with exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.
• Ability to safely enter and exit the scalehouse and surrounding operational areas as needed.

Work Environment

This position is performed in a combination of office and industrial settings. Employees regularly interact with truck drivers, equipment operators, and production personnel while supporting the safe and efficient movement of materials throughout the operation.
